baranscombe last night, nearly got the double;-)

went off last night with rich to our old stamping ground of branscombe

paid the parking which with 2 of you isnt too bad £5 for 8 hours (worth paying that extra £1 as £4=4hours)

looks like a big event there today with marquees and everything set up

went just a bit left infront of beach huts and set up( amazeingly by 9pm we were only ones fishing there

put out 2 rods , really scratching for anything ( caught first 2 dogs )
a bit of spinning between us and we had 3 makkie to subsidize bait supplies)

so as dusk fell it was 3/0 makkie pennel for bass in close and 3/0 crab pennel for smuts at range

and inn came more dogs , not fussed about my tactics as happiliy took both baits

fich at last had a slamming bite( nearly took rod off stand )and a spirited fight and this nice 4lb5oz smuts on the beach

me well i was still bagging up on dogs , then at last, one of the doggies turned into this leviathon

fished on way too late but did just make a kebab at 1.30am

final score rich 2 makkie, 6 dogs and that nice smoothie

me 1 makkie, 1 puppy and 9 dogs ( luckily didnt make the double) but i do hate feeding dogs prime peeler

Re: baranscombe last night, nearly got the double;-)

It was a good session. Had one or two absolutely massive bites, stacks of slack line and then nothing. I'd just baited up a new rig and hung it on the stand when I noticed the one I connected with. The rod was pulled double and the damned thing just kept pulling. I got a great fight out of it. Gotta love hounds.

A shame we didn't connect with a few more, but at least we know they are out there. The really upsetting thing was a missed bite on the mackeral trace. Only cast about 20 yards, the rod started to really bounce around in the stand. By the time I'd got to me rods (Having found somewhere safe to put me Speckled Hen down! ) and wound in the slack not only had the fish gone, but I reckon my bait was only about 5 yards out! Only thing I can think of that would do that is silver and spikey. Still, it wasn't landed so it must go down as a missed doggie!

It's starting to look quite good for the Smut meet.
