thursday @ lee on....

well the smoothound are definately in, i had a half harted thought about targeting the smuts again for a common or hopefully a pb.
i've not been feeling to chipper lately but when the fish are there its time to go.
hence i headed for lee on solent again, but not my usual patch at monks.
further east at the arcade where most people fish.
bait supplies were lashed together with a mackerel and a box of squid + a hand ful of raw prawn al as stand by & not in the best of condition so i stopped off on the way to collect a few crab for prime bait as the tide had already covered the worm beds.

i made a start at 7pm with the tide still in its last hour or so of flood it was a bright sunny evening with a stiff breeze from the s/w
the sea was coloured , a little choppy but no real surf. ( there rarely is at lee on..............)
i'd be fishing from the shingle beach which drops onto a sandy sea bed with about 12-14ft of water on tonights tide
there were a few anglers already fishing at the arcade section about a dozen or so either side of me well spacecd out along the beach. after i'd cast my rods i thought i'd get a picture of the beach here & test my camera.

have camera?------------ yep.
have batterys?................yep.
batterys charged?............yep

take photo,......................oh fk it , mem card at home in card reader, well thats bolxd that then
bound to catch something of interest now i can't record it

as the light faded i stepped up a gear as now was the time , the tide was about to start the ebb and yestys reports from hill head reconed it all kicked off just after dark at 10pm.
at about 1/2 10pm i had the 1st bite of the night , took me by surprise & snaffled my softy crab from the 3/0 hook on my pulley rig, missed that one

a swift re bait & cast , 15 mins later another knock, i was ready for it this time struck the 2nd pull and game on
after a testing little scrap which was hampered a little by weed on the line i'd beached the beast.
i'd got my common smoothound , no pb but a fun sized 5-6lber ,( didn't weigh it just did a photo call on my phone & released)

i fished on till 1am but nothing doing, gave up as the tide and weed increased & my bait ran out.

i'll post the piccy when i can work out how to transfer file from phone to pc.

Re: thursday @ lee on....

kenny-

i'd fishover a high tide that occurs between dusk & 1am
the smoothys could turn up just about anywhere but some places tend to increase your chances because there is either a concentration of food there or the lie of the land tends to concentrate the fish together as they move from one area to another with the tide. often its the turn of the tide that triggers things .

when it comes to neaps & springs its very venue dependant.
unfortunately solent smoothys and weed seem to go together
its a matter of trying to balence how much wed & tide your happy to put up with at any venue, remember this will change with the tide cycle

ive got no rule of thumb figures other than gilkicker gets the strongest tides and a 4.1 m or over is likely to be too big here i'm told.

also think about weather or not there has ben a recent storm as this will increase the amount of floating weed.

not that i know much , but thats my tuppence worth
