jacobsladder monthly competition 13/5/9

Fished jacobs ladder last night as part of the monthly league

now for our club this beach is like marmite you either love it or hate it as its sooo tempremental, me i like it as had my best ray there, rich is not a fan as blanked more than caught

and so it was that there were only 7 of us to fish the comp, so it was called as being a slightly earlier finish and fishing from 7.30 - 11

weather report was for rain later but luckily that held off and we just stayed under leaden skies all eve


rich ,ade and myself yomped down to the first old landslip( out of the ilumination lamp) and set up water was very dirty after a few days stir up but i still banged a 2 hook flapper with pop up on top snood & makkie strip out hopeing for a makkie on 1 rod, other rod was predominately sandeel on a 3/0 pennel hunting ray( did i cast with crab as had 1 ) although not confident for ray on riseing tide( usually fish low here for them

after 1/2 hour amazeingly first blood came to me with a just sizeable whiteing( in may ) of all of 5oz on the pop up, rich reconed that was going to be the winning fish i thought ,
then rich managed a dog of 1lb2oz, not to be outdone i soon had a dog 1lb5 on the sandeel, rich then upped the odds with another dog, mmm now i needed another dog, so secret weapon time and i blast out yep a fresh sandeel , and with 20 mins to go get my 2nd dog, and just on final a 3rd but not better than other 2 , so i had the 2 dogs and a whiteing to weigh in rich the 2 dogs

come the weigh in we couldnt believe no one else had had a touch , we had obviously plonked ourselves right infront of the kennel

so I won ,thanks to the difference that tiny whiteing made, so rich was right)

and rich was 2nd, which i am sure keeps him up at the top of table and myself 2nd

lets see if this roll will continue for the pairs ,match on friday

hopefully there will be more people at the next match on June 10th and its at seaton, so makkie , hounds and bass to hunt

Hate to say I told you so, but.......




I told you so... Only had doggies from that beach recently, so the whiting so always going to be helpful as a second species..... My doggies were bigger than yours as well!!!!!

Still, team speckled hen pull that little bit further clear at the top of the table.... 5 months gone... Could it be a forum 1-2???? Long way to go yet and some good anglers still to enter the fray I reckon....

well done dave and rich, its wierd that your catching whiting in may. i havnt caught one of those since end of january
