Mackerel off Budleigh Salterton? Nyada! Pics Diddly squat at the moment. Just spent a couple of hours from 5 to half 7 trolling the seafront off Budleigh in the hope of luring a few mackers... Nope. I was trying down near the estuary mouth. Oh well, at least the sun was out so I took some (naff) pics on my dodgy camera on my phone. Looking out in Exmouth direction toward orcombe point ![]() These were the shrimpies I tried first, but switched to tinsel traces later ![]() Waves rolling in! ![]() ![]() __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Mackerel off Budleigh Salterton? Nyada! Pics Yup - I reeled in some serious weed at times, but nothing too bad. I was using a 10ft uptiding rod too, so couldn't cast out as far as perhaps I could with something a bit longer. Definitely nothing coming within about 50 metres of shore though. Might see if Dad's unused collection contains a beach casting type rod as well then I can use that, some extra weight, and get some extra distance. Need ideas of other places to fish as well, preferably in Exmouth though. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Mackerel off Budleigh Salterton? Nyada! Pics Is it usually better fishing all round in calmer seas? :) I have yet to look out what makes the perfect conditions. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Mackerel off Budleigh Salterton? Nyada! Pics Right - I'll be keeping my eye on the tide heights and sea conditions in future, before deciding to head out. For bass, what kind of tactics might work on that estuary mouth @ Budleigh? I noticed a couple of people setting up when I left around 7.30. The only bass lures I have are a couple of rapalas but they're a pain to cast as you can't get any distance without resorting to using a weight, which then ruins the rapala action somewhat.... __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!
