Unhappy how to build a dog house pingu style

ESSA open Weekender Comp

this is definately a cup of coffee job so settle down

Last weekend as shouted was an open weekend from fri eve to sun pm , with the winner being the best 2 specimens ( unfortunately this was likely to be bait robbing b*st*rd doggies, Well I decided to give this weekend my best shot and I was seriously out to find something to beat them doggies in style

So Friday eve 6pm I was off down to Charmouth in the hope of a good ray. Parking in the light mist in the carpark you can see the old landslip in the distance,

you need to walk this far to get good clean ground, this landslip is old and stable

but the new one another 200 yards past isn’t so beware, set up early and tried for a plaice in daylight but nothing doing so it was soon all out for a ray and it wasn’t too long before a satisfying nodd and bingo my first ray of the year and at 3lb 8

a very ok fish but only 40ish % for comp, I needed better!!!! But try as I could nothing else snaffled the bait , gave up at midnight and eventually home 1sh

Saturday I sort of helped with chores but my mind was elsewhere , and it wasn’t long before I was off for high water to a localish rockmark hunting wrasse

Nothing here not even a nod but started the tann nicely , but unfortunately the rods went over on the unstable rocks and I lost a ring so I had to whip ( electrical tape )an old one off an old rod before meeting rich for the evening session up at burnham on mud hunting thornies or conger !!!

And if that didn’t work I had a ½ given pass for Sunday morning( but not all day!!)

Burnham sat night
not much to report really
This was a bit of a disaster all round ( baggie may /maynot expand )and although I fished well there was one 4oz pouting when I decided to use worm rather than squid/fishbaits
Baggie did find his new portable toilet usefull though ,

Home about 1.20 to a house full off teenagers on a “sleepover????”

So it was easy for me to get up at 6 and it was east portlemouth here I come( with a grunt from the mrs some what lkike “ so your going then !!”

Got there 7.30 to meet taff who was already setting up
Beautifull morning and salcombe looked as fantastic as ever, fished here 1 rod ror a big plaice other for a thornie

Taff managed a tiny plaice so that was good then about 10ish the guy to our right from teignmouth club pulled in a beautifull 12lb3 thornie

Well done mate, sorry didn’t get name and if on this site well chuffed for you !!
A new PB for him and exactly what taff and myself were after so it was all rods out for ray. But nothing happened until 12 when we had just had enough of boats and grockles . so I phoned home to say would be a tad later than planned later and realised by the tone of voice on the other end of phone that either way I was doomed , so decided between us to carry on to a place neither of us have ever fished , Prawl point, and face the wrath later , and again its staggeringly beautiful,

set up and both rods were out for a big wrasse,

soon I managed a 1lb ballan for all of 25% , and I battled on for better, even getting a double shot with a ballan and corkwring on same rig, so if nowt else that’s 3 points

really enjoyed myself down there and think had 6 wrasse in total and only lost the 1 rig last cast

taff eventually got a 9oz ballan as his second fish of weekend ( he had a doggie from night before) had to pack up at 4 and belted back for weigh in
although it was tough getting taff past his hareem in the field

all had found any decent fish almost impossible to come by( maybe neep tide, maybe been soooo calm for last month??)

and as we predicted the top 3 places were all for catching a brace of dogs, (really need to sort out that specimen size ) I think I was well down but was not for lack of trying and most importantly I avoided the dogs and was far happier with my ray and wrasse as feels like summers here

got home with serious sunburn on face but luckily it was cold enough in the doghouse i had created to cool that down

SORRY MRS P xx

also I also eed to find out what i left to fester and stink in the bottom of this

And sorry rich I used up all wednesdays crabs so will replace if weather looks fishable as looks like were getting the sea stirrup we so desperately need this week

dave

Re: how to build a dog house pingu style

That, my friend, is hardcore fishing. I was knackered when we got back from Burnham, so what you must have felt like last night, god only knows. Even worse, how did you feel after sleeping on the sofa???? She'll come round soon, this is Mrs Ping we're talking about. Good effort overall mate. I'd just started to catch you up on the species front as well!!!

Anyway, Burnham. Thought it was the right decision. It wasn't. Mud, wind and a complete lack of fish put paid to a decent run up there. You live and learn don't ya? Some of us stand, whilst they're doing it of course....

That mate, is the patented "BaggieRich seat plank". When you're fishing ankle deep in mud, having somewhere to sit isn't a bad thing.

How I laughed as he took the piss from his standing position....

Thumbs up Re: how to build a dog house pingu style

Epic repoort & great read Dave, shame you did'nt do better on your comp, but at leat you had some real fish. Good to see some summer species arriving. Is that a built in computer screen in the lid of that tackle box? I always wondered how you spent so much time fishing & on-line ....
