West Bexington 28/2/9

Hi everyone – this is a bit long winded

As the forecast was great for the time of year Kirikomi & I set off for Chesil around 11. 20 mins later & mile further down the road we were stuck in a traffic jam..no idea what was causing it as pulled a U turn & headed for M4 west via at least 10 red lights (I did stop) and dropped down through Chippenham (L drivers who stop at roundabouts), Warminster, the Deverills, A303 - Crewkerne (took a turn for Lyme regis ) and West Bay for bait & bits . Eventually arrived 14:10.
After nearly getting stuck in a car park on my last trip I took care to read all signs carefully before paying & displaying. It seems West Bex is 8hours for £5 (40p after 21:00) and NO RETURN within 16 Hours. not sure if thats a good thing for those wishing to fish whole weekends in the summer!! Could be a big money spinner for the council if they enforce it & possibly make it an expensive trip for anglers. They will have to put double yellows all the way down the hill first, to save the locals getting peed off.

Still...rant over, chill pills taken onto the fishing.

Was hoping for a plaice, knowing it was still a bit early, so we set up 3 rods.
Scratching 1 up 1 down size 4s in fairly close with rag/squid.
long snooded 2 hook flapper mid range with rag/squid/limpet.
up & over wishbone with bling & rag/lug/limpet as far as I could put it.

Moderate breeze from SE was preventing the rod tips from being motionless, but not kicking up any surf, so was happy to see some extra movement on the scratching rig (not the most delicate of rods) after an hour & half or so. Was chuffed to bits to find a double hookup

And

Thoroughly happy now, trip down forgotten, all worthwhile.
20 mins later wound in Kirikomis and retrieved

3 species already...
Wind dropped off to almost nothing before dusk & the sun stayed out, it was almost summery.
As darkness arrived the scratching rod went back in his case, tip lights on, rigs changed to a 3 hook flapper, looked like 2 2/0s & a 1on the hook front & a pulley pennel with 2/0s on the other.
Loaded with lumps of mackerel they went off with great expectations.
K missed a couple of bites, before I connected with a welcome doggy when daylight had gone completely,

looks like old reliable has returned to brighten our evenings.
In the 45 minutes fishing before the parking ticket expired K managed a to get a double shot (whiting & doggy) and another doggy, whilst I had a whiting & a doggy.
Got back to car to find the interior light was on as boot not shut properly, luckily the battery was in good condition & the old girl fired up first time. Pretty uneventful after that – good drive home & picked up a kebab from the van just before midnight.

In summation NO plaice (maybe in a few weeks), but the good old dogs are back. Where to fish with the new carpark rules - suggestions

Re: West Bexington 28/2/9

I had a look at the Dorest CC car parking website this morning.
A season ticket will let you stay for more than 8 hours at the West Bex Car Park (though it doesn't guarantee a space) for the princely sum of £180 per annum.

I have always fancied a proper look at Abbotsbury.

Thanks for the tip Paully .
will look into it (distance etc.).
