Red face Long,Long weekend , ESAA open weekend

Warning this is a long cup of coffee type report

As I said before this weekend was the clubs first open limits weekend , I:e wherever you can make or seafish between 8pm fri to 5pm today
sorry not too many pics as already loads of these venues on here already

Day1 venue1:

Friday night and Rich and me were flying down to the salcombe estuary with high hopes of bagging a ray and maybe a pollock then off to beesands/slapton for otherstuff

Got to east portlemouth about 9 ( met 2 others from club there ) and were fishing very soon after
well despite it being a lovely place and easy fishing venue it was tough going to get any bites/anything , but eventually i got a small pollock of 10oz at least i could wigh in and sure more would come ray
slow was not the word and we battled on, eventually rich had a pollock of 13oz and myself another 10oz pollock,
although not big also worth 1.5 points species wise ( rich has pics on hios phone)

and then Si, Taff and shane from the club also met us after comeing from slapton after bagging a couple of whiteing and doggies ( thinks we did this plan the wrong way round)to fish over low,
so we fished on, at least not cold ( never actually put coat on all eve) but nothing else came to any of us and we gave up at 3 , and fell into bed at 5.20( oops woke mrs but got away with it)

Day 2:venue 2
Saturday after family stuff and lunch 1pm(ish) i was off ( alone this time) to some local rocks hopeing for a wrasse but the water was like chocolate and weed a nightmare so soon knocked that on head and went floundering

venue 3:

at this time of year its great and the busiest haven holiday parks (devon cliffs)beach is empty

so tried the main beach till 4.45( so as to get home for rugby) but nothing ( had i small nibble but was probably crabs letting go)

watched a great game of rugby ( well done wales) then Rich and myself headed off for and eve session

Venue 4:

branscombe
cant say too much ,met several others from club there all hopeing to find anyrthing , but we fished hard again , this time off to the right , but not a touch to either of us , so tired and pretty dispirited we headed off to find a good old kebab( best bite of the day) fell in bed 12.30/45 ish

Day3: venue5:
bit of work this morning and then 2pm and straight off down the estuary to try for anything with the last of the worm
the beach was packed with people and dogs( you can tell it was a nice afternoon
but i set up down by the maer rock away from main crowd

you can see the new lifeboat station being built in distance

fished till 5 not a touch apart from where a twit made there labrador go in water right infront of rods

come the weigh in back at the clubhouse at 5 and all had struggled and miles had been driven, out of the 27 who fished quite a few recorded total blanks so that made me feel a little better but it was a tough tough weekend
I had done 5 venues and 15ish hours of fishing for 2 tiny fish

so a massive well done to taff who scratched out the win and gary who came second
with mixed bags from slapton/brixham/hopesnose and branscombe between them

( looks like the old battle is on again)

nice to see 25 NSFA specimin awards being given out as well

a good weekend Now whers that beer because i really need one now

dave

Great report dave. It's that horrible time of the year where it's the change over season and bites are hard to come by. Well done tho.

Re: Long,Long weekend , ESAA open weekend

Great effort Dave, February is a bit like September, I couldn't catch a f f fish down your way then either.
Roll on the hound season - we will all be cathcing lots of everything then .
Enjoy your week off.

Re: Long,Long weekend , ESAA open weekend

Real nice place to fish, but for the amount of effort we put in, I think we deserved more of a result. That's fishing I guess.....

Sorry it's taken a week, but here's the pics.

Dave was chuffed to bits with his first fish!

Monster Pollock, it ain't..
