Is fishing getting worse. My last trip was down to Worthing Pier just before Christmas, I had the odd whiting knocks but nothing else. I'm watching Brighton Marina on the reports on 'Trial Fish' and they are doing terrible. It was reported that Global warming would make matters worse for us, i.e. fresh water from the melting Arctic would push the Gulf Stream further west but is it actually happening now and they won't admit it. Or is it just an odd hiccup that occurs every now and again. If you read fishing reports around the country we are not the only ones. Please someone catch something good and tell us.

Re: Is fishing getting worse. Certainly seems that way, the usual whiting etc are still around in numbers but everything else seems to have gone down hill. Floundering this season has been nothing like the last few years and general catches around here that i've heard about haven't been good. Hopefully the summer will be better! __________________

Re: Is fishing getting worse. Wait for the weather this month to calm down. When (if?) the water clears we'll get some super plaice around Pompey/Hayling. Wait another 4 weeks and we'll get bream at Selsey. Another couple of weeks and the smuts will miraculously re-appear everywhere. Plus gars and mackies on South Parade Pier (+pollack) and the Marina. And squid! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Is fishing getting worse. With not much to do at the moment I trawled through the internet and came up with the World Fishing Forum. A student asked if there was any evidence of Global Warming on Sea Angling. He received a typically mixed reception. I am not an authority on the subject just an sea angler. However I and no doubt some of you watched a program on the box that spoke of the effect of fresh water from the Arctic pushing the Gulf Stream away from the British Isles and making our water colder. The program pointed out that this was a regular cycle of events - hence the Thames froze previously etc. It did point out that once it started it would continue but could rectify itself in approximately 70 years. So at my age I'm going to get as much fishing in while I can. It could be natures's way of putting two fingers up to the European Union and France and Spain in particular. You can't have our fish because they've gone and I don't blame them. Good to hear that somehardy souls are doing their bit.

Re: Is fishing getting worse. As a boat fisher I learned years ago that from mid Jan to end of Feb was a waste of time, even early March can be hard. ![]() __________________ Poor prep= Pathetic Performance
