| abbotsbury, 13th-lucky for some hi all fished last night , late away again as usual and undecided between chesil & kicker/stokes, ( main target- cod.) well i plumped for chesil in the end and rolled up at abottsbury but had missed the tide, it looked to be stood at h/w or maybee just the start of the ebb, job to tell, recent surf had pushed high tide mark well up the beach. the surf sounded good from the carpark & speaking to some anglers leaving they reconned on just a few whiteing were showing as far as they'd seen. plenty of cars in the carpark though so praps it weren't just me who thought this mark would produce. the patch i usually fish was occupied and so i set up 40yds further right , with bivvy erected & both rods set up it started to rain a little while i was baiting the rigs. the crunch of footsteps approached , ' have you got a set of scales? m8 - mines too small'. my scales bumped down to 4.5kg or 10lb dead in old money . at this sight of this i was eager to get my baits out there, congratulations were swift but sincere & a pic or 2 took. ( sorry m8 didn't catch your name but again, well done )here be his catch- ![]() this seemed a good omen, and with high hopes i set about nailing one for myself. bait- squid, black lug, blueys. rigs- pennel pulley, d-vice pennelled, scratchy flapper . to cut a long story short my night was tedious with just a brace of 5 beardys to show for my efforts , though after a cast at abought midnight, while waiting for my lead to sink, the line just started stripping off my spool WTF?puzzelled i struck & there was def something there, as i played it i thought- single worms with a blade attractor, but what the hell would take it in mid water? my question was anwsered when i'd beached it- herring gull entangled in mainline, neither of us was too happy but eventually i got him untangled and released. by low water rigs were getting burried in the shingle & lost shortly afterward the cold drove me home __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
