First trip of the year !!

Morning anglers ,

awoke yesterday morning at 4.45 am still hung over from the night before , and still reeling from the shock of not bagging a cod in 2008 ........ kicked the cats off the bed , and looked out ..................no frost looking good , dragged myself downstairs to make a nice cup of tea , heating on full blast , pulled on me long johns , and checked the bait ....... spot on !!!! , squid just defrosting , cuttle defrosted and frozen lug ..well frozen lol , let the cats out and got bait buckets filled ... rods and reels on the ready and still 3/4 hour untill pick up keen or what , turned on the pc to find only paul on here lol good to hear from a friendly voice when all else are in bed ... , finally dressed up like santa on a freezing night went out to meet my lift , waited and waited ........ bloody eddiec was late again .. but not by much .... jumped in the car and off to pick up jase , on time at 6.15 am , then off to lymington . ,

Again arrived on time after stopping for bacon rolls at the local garage ... 7.30 we meet up with gary mick mark and barrie and board southern star for a day of fun .... steam off in flat calm seas to the island to pick up 2 more mates for the day , again all on time so another mick and barrie join the voyage , times a good un so we venture out just past the needles for a bash at cod and conger , very lumpy as usual passing the cross of the needles , then calm again as we hit first spot .......

All rods out within 10 minutes and we are off ... spine chilling easterly winds kept us clapping and stomping our feet as the rods lay motionless , as hardened anglers we were embarsassed to say lets move ffs lol , very few bites and even fewer fish , pout and dogs played ball on 6/0 meat hooks and big baits , so skipper cooked brekkie , sausage and bacon sarnies all around , so as we took turns to arm the gunnery against the pout and dogs half of us ate , then visa versa but with a full belly i nearly let the side down with aching arms from pulling out the monster pout and dogs ..i promptly fell asleep , only for a minute before i was kicked lol .

bellies full we steamed out another 2 mile to another mark , and started as we were meant to go on pout , dogs and a solitary whiting ................... the sun came out to play as quickly as it went down for the night ......magical ........ no other charters had much more than us , apart from the avour at our stern who had a 24lb cod and 2 bass upto 12
lbs , freezing cold day but when with mates ......who cares ... it was fun , oh and steve i have 1 1/2 points for the hunt, pout with pic
sorry to bore you with the intencite of a good report but a day out with mates and very few fish is better than a day on your own bagging up ..

any easterly will be a tough days fishing but at least you got out with a good bunch and had a crack m8.
from what iv been hearing things have gone a little quite all over ,that said the lunker cod normaly turn up now, but soon the blondes, spurs and spring run of tope will start. bring it on
