Myself and Rob decided to head east away from the fishless solent to search out some Cod down Kent way.
Left Pompey at 1215 and was all set up and fishing by 1500.
The whiting came thick and fast from the off , not of any size but the ones that were deep hooked went into my bucket to make fishcakes today and i reckon its about time we had a whiting cull
As the tide got a move on the quality of whiting improved and we both had some crackers , i also managed a Dab and a small bass and pout which i reckon had followed us from the solent
I was fishing one rod far out with lug and one medium with three hooks for whiting , i know its a bit strange but i like whiting and i do wonder why people curse them and throw them back.A little time and effort filliting them and you can get a decent amount of fish off them.
Anyway back to the fishing . I hadnt seen any cod caught yet but bang on high tide i was into a better fish which turned out to be a cod of about 2.5lb.
Both rods now went out as far as i could cast them with lug and i failed to connect with a good drop back on one of them.
Ten minutes later i had another cod slightly smaller and that was it.
The cod turned up for about 30 minutes and were gone.
As the tide ebbed the whiting came back with avengence and so did the frost,the bait froze my hands froze , my beach shelter turned to cardboard (and i m a tuff northerner , Rob was struggling with the cold being a southerner )
Speaking to the locals they said it was in need of a good stir up to bring the cod back in.
I drove back to Pompey in thick freezing fog the car showing -6 outside.
Rob did a great impression of a dribbling nodding dog waking only to eat a king size lion bar and leave chocolate all over my new cars seat
It hadnt been the greatest Cod session ever but i was more than happy with my bucket of fish,now wheres my filliting knife?

Great report Gullyworm, sounds like you were kept busy.
I hope the brown stuff on your car seat was chocolate.

Well done John.... Nice to see someone can catch the f*(kers, 'cause I sure as hell can't.

Oh, and Rob... A Lionbar??? I thought you took your fishing seriously???? Surely there's only one post-fishing snack and it's infinately more meat based than chocolate coated... I mean, come on... Where's you standards man???

Well I did say to John on the way home to call in at a kebab van - but NO he said, no kebabs in my nice new car ..... I cried, I knew I was letting the team down so had to make do with a garage & a Lion bar BUT no ordinary lion bar - A mega lion bar ......
