Thumbs down abbotsbury last night

fished abbotsbury last night with rich after a mythical cod after hearing of a few
but maybe we should have taken the hint when we found we were the only people fishing there( never seen chesil sooo dead)
well to cut things short it wasnt a blank but none too exciteing, a few whiteing each( thats starters for tonight done) but no cod

a few others arrived just before we packed up at 11.30, after fishing down and over low

was almost getting a bit parky when left as the chesil shingle was actually frozen solid on the carpark side, luckily seaward side sheltered( just kept the beer chilled nicely), but roads were definately dogey

nice eve all the same especially as probably no fishing till next wednesday night as got club xmas social bash fri night and that usually takes 2 days to get over

Re: abbotsbury last night

Better luck next time guys. The Shingle down there was frozen Saturday night too. Hard to believe when you consider how much salt spray blows over that beach. There were quite a few people fishing Saturday though...

Re: abbotsbury last night

An odd night again. (This is starting to become a regular thing these days.)

I spent the night wondering round like the mitchelin man. I was wearing, 3 pairs socks, 2 pairs thermal long johns, 1 pair tracky bottoms, 1 bib & brace, 1 thermal T shirt, 2 long sleeved T shirts, 1 thin woolen jumper, 1 fleece top, 1 Titan smock, 1 pair thick gloves, 1 scarf, 1 woolen balaclava, 1 fleece hat and a partridge in a pear tree. Now I know some of you might suggest that it might not have warranted the above gear, and you're probably right, but I've been "down south" for too long now and I'm ashamed to say I've gone soft. At least the casting went surprisingly well.....

So having sweated my way up and over the bank, I stopped and had a look around. No one. Not a light, not a rod, not a numpty with a set of feathers, nothing. It was the first time I've ever seen *no one at all* fishing Chesil. It felt like walking into the ghost town... Very weird

Like Dave said, no Codling, but the whiting were fairly obliging. I even took 3 home with me for the first time and cooked them up tonight. Bread crumb, sesame seed and some sweet chilli sauce and I'm chuffed to bits with myself. I even managed to avoid burning the house down with the hot oil. (I have a track record here! )

A balmy -2*c when we got back to the car and a quick test of the ABS on the ice as we joined the main road back to Swire meant that things were taken fairly steady on the run home. All good fun.

Ah well, we'll get a codling sooner or later......

Re: abbotsbury last night

Fished down there saturday baged an 7lb cod on black lug just after low water. Went back down Tuesday night no cod this time but an 2lb whiting made up for that. Had the normal doggy's, pout and small whiting both times.
