Town quay 21/11/08

Evening anglers ,

well after spending the last 5 weeks or so chasing the cod , and spending a small fortune on bait ,and blanking more times than i care to remember me and aaron met up with eddiec lewis and mark for a good old bash on town quay , 1 lb of rag and a 1lb box of squid .....simple ...... , out thoughts were on flounder /sole and livebaiting for bass , well we were in from the off with surpringsly big whiting from the quay , and of course the ever obligtuary pout , then as low approached i had a hit on me live bait and it took a steaming run under the quay , fought it hard to get it out and managed it , as it was low water the drop from the quay to the surface was very high and even my 25lb class boat gear could not lift it , had to shout eddie to grab the rod as i pulled it up by hand by the shock , got it up and it was bloody huge .... complete with lip piercings , it was easily going 8 - 10 lbs in weight , then last lift over the railings and SNAP , line parted and off he went back to the briney , 60 lb snood line bit clean through , gutted was an understament as the word b*ll*x echoed around the quay , pb bass seen and gone , but not forgotten , one more further take on live bait resulted in nowt , lewis got his live bait smashed 4 times but was unlucky on all takes ,once again a bloody great night in great company , and absolutely freezing wind chill factor , departed at 6 am to a nice warm bed .............. ill be back wednesday night as ive always said this is the best time of the year on the quay for the bigger buggers ....................and they are there !!!!!! ,

Real shame that Lee. Maybe you should consider a drop net. Sounds like you had a fun session though...

Is not really an option ian , as there is still 2 ft of concrete out past the railings , you would need to jump the railings in order to net it , which is both dangerous and adding more fuel to the fire for the fishing to be banned ,maybe next time ill risk it though

You must be gutted Lee.... Bad luck mate. At least you got to see the fish though. Maybe some sort of outrigger/crane arrangement for the drop net?? There's got be be a better way mate.... You don't want that happening again do you

BTW How do you hook up your live baits? 6/0 through the top lip on a running ledger I guess? Do you actually cast them, or just lower them down the side??? Thinking of doing more live baiting myself.

Great report shame about the pb bass. maybe it was not ment to bee and there will be an even bigger 1 nxt time.

I live bait on a pennel rig rich for over the side fishing and yes as a running ledger , 4/0 hook through the top lip and 6/0 through the tail , as for beach fishing i use a pennel pulley for close in casting , best of luck rich
