Dungeness 29/10/8

well after a good bit of planning it was a night of cod hunting at dungeness with 2 mates being rob and that old git paul

the weather had turned decidedly chilly with snow the night before in surrey


and a thunderstorm in dover

both paul and rob had eventually found their sea fishing tackle in backs of sheds / attics and we had so much bait ordered we had to go

so it was we all met up in the wild and barren S\E wilderness that is dungeness at 2ish


paul had got there earlier after getting all our bait and had already had a dab and a whiting

we knew from reports that the ebb would be slow so didnt waste too much bait

think the birds circling above robs head know how long it is since he last went out



the tide dropped rapidly so we decamped and headed down the bank

nicely sheltered from the northerly now down there



the whiteing were still stripping anything

an hour after the turn i started hitting a snag( old line and tackle???) and suddenly lost 4 sets but soon after seemed clear again

I was now fishing big baits only but was still manageing double shots of whiting on pennel rigs, paul was the whiting king with a few keepers as well, rob was well into double figures as well

the wind and weather did turn a bit though and by 10.40 although not quite at high we called it quits as had eventually got cold and wet enough for the coat and wind had blown both robs and my shelter over twice, and robs cold had developed nicely as well

a great evening though despite the lack of cod

and just to keep baggie hapy we found a kebab shop in ashford on way home so as to keep tradition

Shame the cod didn't show....still you can't knock a little whiting bashing, makes a change from the usual pout

Getting some proper weather for fishing now to go with the early nights.

it was a good social afternoon/evening, shame the weather did its best to spoil things,
the whiting were a bit of a pain,i'm convinced there were codling out there our baits just were'nt out there long enough ,
nice to catch up with dave and rob again,thanks lads i always enjoy fishing with you two

What can I say? Great time fishing with good friends, that's all you need. I had my fair share of whiting, but it's better than nowt. It was flipping cold at times and I feel like I've got hypothermia today, but I'd do it all again tomorrow just to fish with you guys.

By the way, I'm still tasting that kebab!

nice report shame no cod on the night. ive had a whiteing fest there as well. your bait only hits the water and your rod is then nodding big time.
