Widewater Shoreham Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 28th

i'm just getting into match fishing and fished my second and third matches ever on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 28th of September both matches where at widewater Shoreham both days where bright sunshine and goos building tides Saturday the 20th i finished 9th with 4 golden gray mullet and a flounder

my First ever golden gray Mullet 41cm long (forgot my scales)

Sunday the 28th i finished last i think fishing with a 21cm Female Tub Gurnard but everybody struggled to catch

A Very pretty lady

i fished both matches using with a Running ledger rig using Dvice lead and a wishbone rig with size 6 hooks on 10lb fluorocarbon snoods/hook lengths each loaded with half a dozen maddies it was my first time using the Dvice not a bad bit of kit (does exactly what is says on the tin) i out fished the guys around me on the Saturday and their deffinatly more experienced sea anglers then me i think it might have been my presentation that gave me the edge
the only difference between the two days was the wind direction Easterly on the Saturday and a South westerly on the Sunday tides where very similar
but i had a really grate time and i can't wait for my next one

Re: Widewater Shoreham Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 28th

Its a nice beach to fish mate and id say you done a great job if you never fished down there before.....i wouldnt of thought of using a dvice down there though as many fish are only caught on a slight flick of around 30-40 yards? I heard the water was very clear and hard work to fish the bottom on the sundays match so i think you done pretty well to avoid the blank!

Well done on your results mate.....its hard to come down and take on the local anglers on there own patch....but keep trying out them matches mate....as im sure with a bit more knoledge that you will pick up will show in your future results!

Ollie.

Re: Widewater Shoreham Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 28th

thanks guys
it was hard on the Sunday i wish i'd had some floats with me then i'll have been able to get a gar or two which would have bumped me up the places i'm sure
as i know a few people only had a gar or two but because they have a better points value then gurnard i was at the back but happy enough
as for using the Dvice down there on a small chuck i found it worked brilliantly at looking after my maddies plus i noticed both on the Saturday and the Sunday matches that i was getting my bites as soon as the bait was on the bottom it was literally cast out tighten onto it and the tip would go round even the flounder did that within seconds of tightening onto the lead whack round it went

i learned that when match fishing you have to have more then one rig set up and ready to go and i paid for that mistake on the Saturday as i was playing a fish it cut across my other line (as it was a two rod match Sundays was a one) and bumped of the fish and cut my line i reeled in quick to recast and didn't think to check the line and so i cast out and sploosh lost that one and leader as well saw where i had damaged my mainline and lost an hour retying shock leaders and new rigs and it took nearly forty minutes to get the fish going again by which time there was only ten minutes left of the match
but i learned a lot and am looking forward to the next time i can get down the coast and fish a match well i'm looking forward to the next time i go fishing which unfortunately will be Saturday as i can't get out before
not having a car is a bad thing
but i'm hopeful if the weather stays ok and doesn't blow too hard if you've seen the forecast it's not good but i'll still get out and try
