species hunt ,friday 20th sat,21st

Afternoon anglers ,

well last night me and eddiec ,lewism and my big sis claudia decided last minute to go on a mission to target a few species that have eluded us lately , and a bash for mullet in the morning ,

town quay was our first venue to fish the run in , arrived 6.30pm to a windless flat calm low water , as per norm attacked by pout from the off , mostly micro pout , then a different sort of hit and my first sole of the year came in only a slip but never the less a first ,..........



promptly returned ,cracked on feeding the pout , then pulled one in livebaitng size , so on to a pennel he went and dropped a metre of the bottom , sat down to a coffee and a chat to ed , and off the pout rod went, to screaming run under the quay , grabbed it and had a battle on , trying to persuade it out from under the pylons , and a battle i actually won for a change , up she came 6lb 2oz beauty bar of silver, biggest of the year ,....................



released to fight another day , cracked on for another hour ,and decided to move to a good sole spot i was given , arrived 2am and off we go again , very slow action , with schoolies and pout from the off , and thats the way it stayed , amazingly we got the mullet feeding in the dark , smashing the bread from the surface , but just too dark to try to bag one , as daylight broke , missed one good take on mullet , but missed the best of the tide for them , packed it in at 7am this morning and off home to bed , well chuffed , biggest bass this year , first sole this year , and oh yeh , first snotty as well

lee i assume it was thick lipped greys you had feeding?...... if you can get them going in the dark thats when you get the really massive ones! surface fish for them they will take the rod out of your hands! you know it when they hit a surface bait in the dark! well worth a try

yes dave they were , the place we fished has some double figure babys in there , they are there year after year , but going by the size of them , age and experience , they have the upper hand , ive had fish over 5 lb from there this year and they are easier to catch end of this month through to october

finding somewhere they feed in the dark isnt the easiest thing to do ...they seem to feed in different areas of the harbours than what they would during daylight here ...very strange...... but take them off the surface and you will get the better fish thats amongst them

just too add...... it seems like your fishing open water too so scale right down to really light gear......yeah its a bit of a battle to get them in the net but you will find the lighter you go the more fish will hit the bait...


those freshwater guys fishing with poles dont get pestered by carp for no reason.....its because the gear they use is much lighter than anything a carp angler would consider and doesnt spook the carp!

a mullet is a ''sea carp'' it will eat anything if presented correctly

lol dave ive been mullet fishing for years , and always use light gear ....i know exactly how a mullet works

Also ive caught mullet on chips and mcdonalds lol so i know they eat everything
