| sept 4th well the forcast was dire last night but the sun shone as i left home for the coast and a little bait gathering. [IMG] [/IMG]by the time i got there it was well overcast and an odd spot of drizzle was starting to fall, undaunted i set about digging a bit of rag and spent an enjoyable hour and a half playing in the mud which yealded a decent ammount of rag to go with the box of squid i'd bought. after sorting the worm and cleaning myself off i felt knackered, and was quite happy to chill after a good bait digging sesh, with low water all around and the sky darkening i wern't so keen on fishing after all that, but i had to do something with the bucket of rag. i left to take a gander at the mark i'd chosen originally-pennington , and walked across the marsh , it looked like hours b4 the tide was fishable and for some reason just didn't fancy it. it just didn't feel right. might have had something to do with the rain clouds and the long walk back n too with my kit so i went for an aimless drive and ended up at avon beach , steamer end of the firtrees. by now it was dark . there was lots of weed on the beach and a little in the surf when i started, blank avoidance achieved on my 1st cast with this little pout [IMG] [/IMG]the wind was quite strong from the southwest, throwing a moderate surf and coloured water. rigs- 2 and 3 hook flappers and a fixed pennel. sporadic pout turned up with some being bigger than others [IMG] [/IMG] in amongst them at some point a wee schoolie snaffled a bunch of head hooked small worm. [IMG] ![]() [/IMG] the next retrieve found my rig twisted and slimed, ah.. missed an eel i reconed , got him next cast no piccy due to the usual disentangle rig and unhook job. it was at this point i started with the pennel and the larger hooks to try and avoid the snottys on one rod at least. i didn't catch another though. the pennel i had set up was on a d-vice, trial run and first time out with this tool, i was suitably impressed, they seem to work well, and it accounted for a random unexpected ray which other than another couple of pout was it for the morning as the ebb tide brought lots of weed with it by 4am so i quit. [IMG] [/IMG]no specie points , but not a bad trip dodgeing the torrential showers. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
