Re: town quay advice

Hi mate , night fishing is going quite well , with the usual pestering from pout and now the whiting starting to show , the worst thing is the spiders ,bloody swarms of them so take plenty of snoods , on the plus side , a few decent sole been bagged as well as nice bass , livebaitng pout over the side , more than usual flounders being caught , dogs and smutts upto the 5 lb mark ................ good luck ,

lee.

By the way make the most of it , as all fishing will be banned on the quay at any time now

how did you fish it a lot of people make the mistake of thumping a cast out as far as they can and they mostly end up with pout for their troubles the bass are caught from underneath the pier by suspending your bait a couple of feet of the bottom you will need to vary this depth as you fish there but you can't have it on the bottom or it'll be gone in seconds loads of crabs and as for the sole a gentle chuck out into the deep gully that the red line ferrys use but your bait really needs to be pinned firmly to the bottom for them to pick it up the only bait i've ever used down there is Rag and always caught well

Re: town quay advice

I've been alternating between TQ and Calshot for the last few weeks, TQ has been fishing far better have managed some nice bass mostly between 3 and 5lb both from underneath the stantions but also about 30 yards out, key is to keep the live bait clear of the bottom, have also been lucky with a few nice sole, critically i don't pin it to the bottom, i use a single size 4 hook on a plain old running ledger but i always add a bait lift to the snood to allow a bit of movement, since doing this i've had far more sole than before.
