| Newhaven (Tide Mills) 22nd August 08 Seeing as this was the first decent day for along time me and a mate decided to have a go for mullet at a spot called Tide Mills which is between Newhaven Harbour and Seaford. We dug some red rag on the way as we would be fishing for mullet mainly. Once we arrived the water didnt look to good, it seemed to be fairly dirty on the edge and wasnt as clear as we would have liked futher out. First chuck resulted in a small bite which I missed but as I was reeling my rig back in, the rod bent over and two mackerel had taken my red rag baits whilst on the move. Not my first mackerel this year but the first I had actually taken a picture of .....  These were quickly returned and baited up and chucked out again. After 5 or so minutes the rod started shaking alot and reeled in a double shot of fish, this time a small bass and a Golden Grey Mullet - my first this year . Crap pictures but it wouldnt sit still at all.   Fish was returned and almost as soon as the bait on the next cast hit the water I had another mullet on but lost it just as I was about to get it out of the water. That was it for the mullet action, me and my mate both had some schoolies, and plenty more mackerel whilst retrieving baits but gave up after 4 hours fishing. Very last chuck I had a smoothound which must have weighed about 4oz. All fish were returned. Not a very good days fishing really but another 2 species for the species hunt anyway.      |

| Re: Newhaven (Tide Mills) 22nd August 08 Well done lewis....but you could of caught the harder of the three mullet to catch for the hunt!! lol mind you its not been that good for any of them really so i think you done pretty good getting that one.....mind you there where a few there last weekend so i hear.....it surprised this beach doesn't get fished more often. Nice report mate and always good to read you have another species or two. |
