| Shoreham Beach - 11th August 08 Fished a small Shoreham club match last night, catch and release style, on Shoreham beach. After the recent strong winds the sea was quite lumpy, weedy and had a small amount of colour in it. Basically the fishing was pretty poor, I caught a couple of small schoolie bass and four very small hounds but the highlight for me was half through the match I had a small bite (had been getting plenty of them), left it for a few minutes, it kept tapping away then I had another bite which a good bite for a change. Reeled into find this nice little 42cm codling on the end along with a very small hound on the other hook. Sorry about the crap pics but had to get it measured and witnessed and didnt want to keep it out of the water for to long. ![]() ![]() The fish took peeler crab and was promptly returned to grow bigger. On the chart we use a 42cm codling is estimated to weigh 740 grams .... 1lb 10oz ish ? Other fish that turned up in the match were decent eels, small flatties and a mullet of almost 2lb were caught ... no money for me There was also another codling caught on a pier nearby yesterday as well so maybe there will be a few around this year .... and its another species ![]() |

hopefully its a sign that it maybe another good year for them. Normally they arrive around here early september and stay until November but this year there seems to have been a few more around than at this stage last year and last year turned out to be a reasonable year for them by our standards. ![]() |
