Red face Branscombe 6/8/8

last night was the clubs monthly wed night comp again
this time the venue was Branscombe

had been looking forward to this after the slog of the weekend, as its a good venue, one which we know and a good tide so hopefully some good fish
weather was to be showers and a light southerly and tide at 3.7m at 10.45, fishing 7,30-11.30

got there 7.15 just in time for sign in and to get car park concession slip( thanks Si and club for sorting that), there were 11 signed in, still down a bit on numbers, guess the weather men put paid to more

well when we got over the shingle there was a horrid chocolate sea and weed and debris( recent landslip??? as bits of tree everywhere) all along beach

this was not going to be as easy as hoped

we set up on the clean ground to the left of boats( hopeing for Dogs) and started fishing.
Of cause thats when the family with the four screaming kids, football in water game, rocks, and kites filled in the gap to my left what joy

well not alot was happening and i was fishing hard again, glad i put shelter up as rain started( wish i had put up first time with door away from wind though )
then i pulled in this leviathon from the weedy depths

a cute but greedy bull huss, it had taken a whole squid on a 3/0 pennel, weighed 5 ounce of which 2 were probably the squid , not big enough for comp though

Rich was having a nightmare with the weed and i think was down to one rod,But somehow i was just surviving.
I did lose 2 hoohlengths to spider crabs and then managed to cross lines and end up both rods out water for 20 min clearing the tangle

then with 20 min to go my crab rod arched over, I did a dayley thomson ( well it is nearly the olympics) back from where i was chatting to rich, and Result
a smut of 3lb 6 to weigh in

first fish on a softie crab???

but that was it
come the weigh in we fund out only 4 people had caught to weigh in

I ended up 3rd with the smoothy, the only other catches were a red mullet, 2 bigger bull huss @ 3lb and 4lb, 2 small dogs and 2 pollock, so a poor night realy, the weed did no one any favours

well done to adrain who won with the 2 of the dogs and the biggest huss

another tough night
roll on friday down ferrybridge as will just be fishing for fun

Re: Branscombe 6/8/8

Well done on getting third mate on what seemed a hard match to fish.

Fish seem to be getting far and few between lately Ive blanked the last three trips on freshwater but the sea doesnt look any better

Re: Branscombe 6/8/8

Well done Dave.
A bronze medal is pretty good, though I thought Daley Thompson did better.
Can the other forumites think of another sporting icon who resembles you more?
