| With Exmouth - who needs Magaluf? Hi all. Spent the last 7 days fishing in the Exmouth region with Kirikomi. Was able to meet up with Dave a few times & Rich once. That’s twice we have met Rich & twice we have blanked – hopefully we can change that next time. Thanks for all your help gents – enjoy the tinnies .Here are the full results for the week, with milestone pictures. Sat 26th - Jacobs Ladder Karen kicks off with a flounder (her first). 2 hours later I’m into a pouting. 30 mins later a sole (my first) obliges. 30 mins later I haul out an eel estimated at about 30. Sorry no picture of this one, but then whom wants to see a foot long eel .40 minutes later I catch my first bass Sunday 27th - Dawlish Warren Blanks all round – see Pingu’s earlier post. Monday 28th – Exmouth Docks & Ladram Bay Spent a few hours in the afternoon, over high tide, catching little wrasse & blenny from the docks. Karen had the biggest by far. ![]() Evening time we went to Ladram Bay to see if the ray were just round the corner from Jacobs. They were not very obliging, though I missed a cracking bite, little nod then a steady pull down, still can’t believe I missed it. Luckily/skillfuly consecutive blanks were avoided by some good old pout. Tuesday 29th – Ladram Bay Why did we go back there after only catching pout the previous nite??? BBC forecast heavy rain & wind… turned out to be a nice night…. Just no fish Wednesday 30th – Seaton Had hoped to meet up with Rich again for another blanking session, unfortunately other commitments meant he couldn’t make it… so we had to catch some fish .First put in 21:30 saw this little beauty pull the rod tip down, my first smut. K lost one in the surf, I had another of similar size at 23:30 before K hit a slack liner on my rod, no mean feat, considering it’s right hand wind & she’s not. K’s first smut. Thursday 31st – Ladram Bay. Definitely got soaked here, torrential rain , fishing a dropping springBefore all the water drained away I had two good reasons – a pout & another eel of about 30 (centimetres for those who missed the first pun). Friday 1st August – Seaton. Armed with plenty of crab we went back to Seaton to catch more Smut, met up with Dave again who gamely gave it a go in difficult conditions before retiring to the pub. With a large swell, surfing breakers & a head on wind (according to the BBC 18 mph – dropping to 14) the 6 oz grippers were not gripping for more than a minute. As it was the last night of the holiday K & I persevered. When the tripod was blown over I decided just to fish with one rod. I took the lighter rod and stood in the howling wind & pouring rain feeling every movement of the lead on the sea bed, every lump of weed catching on the line, every gust hitting the rod and two out of place knocks, which resulted in my favourite fish of the trip – because I had to suffer for it.Packed up about 01:00, damp but happy. A great holiday by the sea ![]() ![]() Thanks again to Dave & Rich. Thanks to Exmouth tackle shop – for more local knowledge. If anyone fancies a break down there PM me for the website for the accommodation we used… £300 a week for 3 bed flat (with parking) peak season. Thanks for making it to the end of the report. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:> |

| Re: With Exmouth - who needs Magaluf? Great report mate and it was really good to meet you both again. I'm so sorry for the bum steer on Sunday, really should have listened to Rob in the shop, however there are definatley fish to be had where we were, just a tonne of weed to go with them. Ah well, you live and learn I guess. Sorry to about being unable to make it on the Wednesday. I was stuck at work until nearly 9pm thinking about how you were getting on. Having a wail of a time by the sounds of it. Well done the pair of you. A couple of nice fish there.A few more weeks and I reckon the spot we first tried might produce the goods. We'll have to give you a shout and prove me and Ping can catch occasionally!!!! ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT!
