southbourne 10th july.

every year during june & early july my usual fishing expeditions grind to a halt for one reason or another.
but last night i got booted out the door by the missus saying ' fer christs sake *ugger off fishing and cheer yourself up'.

i'd been thinking about it all week, as i do every week.
? strong s/w winds all week
;- good tides at chesil, but maybe a bit lumpy.
low water just about everywhere else + solent likely to be weedy.
, bournemouth over low water, that'll do.

fished southbourne from 7pm-4am.

dry/overcast/windy.

bait- squid/sandeel/ black.

rigs- 2 hook flapper/ 2 hook clipped / pennel pulley.

one look over the cliff top and i didn't rate my chances of a ray but the surf looked good for a bass so i was down on the beach quick sharp baited the flapper with squid n eel & flung it out.
then set about putting up the bivy b4 makeing a start on the 2nd rod.
by the time i had the 2nd rod sorted i noticed the dreaded weed running up the line of the 1st rod , it had swung 'round in the tide too so i had a shufti and found i'd caught with my 1st cast, things were looking good for a fish filled session.

a pretty little tub gurnard, who didn't co-operate by closeing his pectoral fins as i clicked the camera, the bright blue edges of them would have made a great piccy.

the evening passed rather uneventfully after that with just waves and weed makeing bite detection some what of a problem till about 1.30 am when my whole squid got snaffled.

nice little bass , they aught to be here if anything is.
but that was it ,just the 2 fish all night.

hope to do better on portland next sat' despite the spring tide.
