| Burton Bradstock report 7/06/08 Bananna Steve, Dognobbler (Pete) & myself had planned to fish Cogden on Chesil beach last Saturday, but as i'd hurt my back at work a change to a venue with a shorter walk was decided. So we ended up at Burton Bradstock. We stopped off at the tackle shop in West Bay to get some bait & bought thirty quids work of Ragworm between the three of us. Arrived at Burton Bradstock about 10 minutes later. Used Petes National Trust membership card to get free parking & went down onto the beach to set up. Pete & Steve Steve pose's in his new Titan Smock & trys to thread a mushy worm on a hook Pete get's comfortable It was then that we un-wrapped our bait to discover that we had bought £30 of dead mushy worms. I can honestly say that I've never seen such poor bait in my life & we felt totally ripped off. The bait that i'd bought from from West Bay Angling Centre in the past has never been very good, but this was the worst i'd ever seen & in future I shall be buying my bait in Weymouth where the bait is always good. However we decided to make the best of a bad job & struggled on with the dead worms & a few squid that Pete had brought. To cut a long story short, we could'nt buy a bite, except from the Spider crabs that kept nicking our hooks. The only highlights of the day were watching a Paraglider who showed us an easy way to get up the cliffs & a rather well endowed topless sunbather who set up just along the beach. ![]() I did manage about a dozen mackerel as a shoal briefly came within range, but these were the only fish we saw caught. Eventually the current & weed became too much & we departed for a chinese meal around 8pm. __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org Last edited by Greenheart; 06-12-2008 at 07:37 PM. |

| Re: Burton Bradstock report 7/06/08 Hi Folks, 27 years ago I purchased bait from the West Bay Angling Centre and despite the fact that I have been camping in the area for 27 years I have yet to return to the shop that has been run by the same family. Their prices are top of the range, and their bait is **ap. They make their money out of unsuspecting holiday makers, charging well over the odds. The local anglers are treated well and get the best off the bait, while the "Grockells" are given the rubbish. I now reside in the area but still refuse to enter the shop. | Re: Burton Bradstock report 7/06/08 Unlucky gents. Thanks for the warning about the bait though. I've not used the shop myself, but I'd certainly think twice about it now. I don't really understand why people do this sort of thing. Once you've got a bad reputation, it must be fairly hard to shift it, and what happens in the winter when there are no grockels to fleese? Ah well, nice report and pics guys. ![]() __________________ Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. | Re: Burton Bradstock report 7/06/08 Bad luck on the fishing guys. I got my worms from there the previous week & they seemed fine to me, I'm no connesi..coner.. conasiuer...expert though. At least one of them managed to bite me. Did the guy behind Pete actually club that sunbather? __________________ Spahill I usually catch 3 different sorts of fish small pout, tiny pout & no pout 2008 - Sessions 41; Blanks 17; Species 16 |
