Smile A beach too far??? Charmouth comp last night

Caharmouth first Wednesday competition 4/6/8

Or maybe a beach too far???

Well this is possibly the furthest from home the wed league has been at, as is pretty much a full hour drive there( got back in 40though), and I guess this is why the numbers were so low
Only 4 brave souls did battle with the sea and fish at charmouth last night, usually about a dozen, so decision was made almost at the start to just have a bit of fun and shorten slightly so finished at 11 rather than 11.30

Conditions were good although we did find some weed in the first 20 yards or so which was a nucence more so on the retrieve
Fishing over river too left was deemed out as there is still a lot of tree debris in water from last months landslip also the tide was up to the cliffs and as they seem a bit unstable here decided safety first

So Adrian and Paul took the high ground on prom by flagpole
Ian went just left down to beach and I went to beach just to right where you can see the new big landslip further along beach

A short while later Adrian shouted paul had had an undersized smalleyed, I needed no more encouragement and switched the single hook rod from worm on a single 1/0 to a 3/0 and sandeel( as being charmouth ray are really prime target, and i have quite a fondness for these lovely smiley fish) other rod stayed 2 hook 1/0 flapper with lug

Eventually managed a poxy silver eel on flapper rig at 7oz and a big 17% mmm must try harder

Then a schoolie that even the biggest amount of stretching only came to 20cm( need 41 )

Then with ½ hour to go I get a solid knock on lug worm rod and a weigh on, oh yes a doggie at last, but as got nearer felt better and yess a lovely 4lb smalleyed, I was well chuffed as never had on lug and my best of year( although only 50% specimen for comp)

And that was it I had a massive 67% but had had a good night, weed never became the problem I thought would be

Went back to the not very long weigh in and head those horrible words that someone had caught a doggie( always seem to win as get so many % points for these poxy fish) but no it was a tiddler at 58% so I WON!!!!!

Went home pretty pleased although only £1 richer

Pity no more fished but maybe a beach too far away from home

Next month should be better supported as is Rodney bay, Bring on the BASS!!!!

Excellent - well done Dave - always good to go home richer than when you came !!

I fished a day comp yesterday at Tilbury in the Thames Estuary - what a day - blanked as did all my team members, 40 anglers - half dozen fish .... doom & gloom ...... so smile - you did really well !

Thumbs up Re: A beach too far??? Charmouth comp last night

Well done Dave, both on catching & winning. I trust you used your winnings to buy your mates a beer in the pub on the way home.
