| another family day out on the beach. 29th may. which started as usual with a quick scout around the bait digging grounds for a few worm against a rapidly riseing tide. we dug 30 odd then we all ,bar the missus, hunted out a few crabs chuck them all in the bucket, i said to the kids, i'll sort out any peelers later. having just the one bucket they all went in together with the worm . i added a little water to rinse the mud from the worm, then went for an ice cream returning to find that the crabs had scoffed 1/2 the worm hence another swift dig to get a few more + separate them from the crab. during which i found no peelers, such is life i took the youngsters for a play about in the park while casually watching a guy who was fishing in front the carpark, he seemed to be catching nowt but weed and remembering our last visit here we left for leeon solent and some grub. the radio spoke of the usual mayhem on the m27 and so we headed west instead and found ourselves at keyhaven, after a quick look around coz none of us had stopped here b4 we had a wee bite to eat at the pub and a quick couple of games of bar billiards. (me n ash lost abismally to a father and son in a pairs match , but i was victorious against ash in the following singles match by flukeing a 30/200 split off the back cushion to beat him by 10. )anyway back to the fishing ,i'd read a usefull report on this venue last week and thought i'd try it somewhen for a few specie pts i'd missed out on last year so we set up next to the tide gates fishing light with my spinning rod and light beachcaster, simple flowing traces size 4 hooks and worm. with little wind the water was flat calm and the tide just starting to drop and i saw the occasional fish swirling on the surface. it didn't take long for the little chequer bass to find our baits and both ash and i had scored one each. no size but points for the hunt. me n ash took turns trolling a flounder spoon around but had no takers though something slashed at it while ashley had the rod. we caught another couple of chequers b4 my main target showed as dusk aproached. the 1st of several slimey eels from about this size down to bootlaces i think we had about 3 each , but i'd soon had enough of them and so we decamped to milford on sea where i blanked for a couple of hours or so b4 running out of bait which co-insided with the start of the strong tide run + weeded out , i could see a light down at hordle and several on the bank earlier but there was just one guy fishing the carpark section alongside me and i think he fared the same as i. __________________ 2008, sessions..25, total blanks..3 species,..20 its easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than to defeat the darkness all around him. |

| Re: another family day out on the beach. 29th may. last year i left it to 'one will turn up somewhen' but it didn't. it was a day with the kids to find a few fishies for them to look at. ashley would have stayed there all night as he was having fun with the chance of a fish a chuck. but the usual unhooking probs were a pain up the ar*e & i don't see much point in continuing to catch and possibly dammage undersized fish especially when its gonna be species that are heavy comercial pressure and seem to be in decline. sorry, might sound like a bit of a preach , i used to enjoy tiddler snatching as much as any other kid but now i see it as pointless and i tend to move venue or change tactics to avoid the littluns which may get bigger one day. its a bit of a balance between catching enough to keep ash & the kids interested in angling and not hammering small stuff unnessacerelly. __________________ 2008, sessions..25, total blanks..3 species,..20 its easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than to defeat the darkness all around him. |
