| chesil cove 18th may. with another pass granted & 30 odd worm left over from the session at lepe last night off i set for an afternoon sortee at the cove . conditions were flat with a light e/n/e wind, there were divers in the patch that i used to fish and so i went right to just the other side of where the boats launch. as i set up a couple of kayak anglers paddled into the bay for a drift about but i didn't see them catch . baits were rag , and 2 manky old squid but i wasn't worried a nice fresh mackerel would soon sort that out. with the beach caster set up with a wishbone and an offering of ragworms i set about getting me a mackerel with my carp rod and various dexters/ shrimpy feathers but there was nothing doing and so i ended up with a baited rig on that too, although i reglarly swopped things around to try and get me a mackerel when i got bored of watching the baited rods which were untroubled by the attentions of fish. the afternoon passed slowly, i'd seen the odd fish swirl on the surf line dueing the quiet spells and so occasionally dropped a bait on a fine light rig right in close but inevitably soon after some bright sparks would turn up and start chucking rocks in ![]() as dusk approached, with the tide dropping fast, i'd just about had enough. i baited my pulley pennel for the last cast with a squid head and 2 sml hardback crabs id found in tne bait box hideing under the squid. i sat there in the last of the daylight and i noticed a fish or 2 topping 60odd yds out and decided on a wee chuck about with a carp rod & dexter again. 3rd cast was a success and i avoided the blank again with a mackerel but a dozen or more casts yealded no more so i packed away the small rod and while doing so saw the first bite of the day . i thought- the crab bait- smoothy - damn, bloody camera is still in the car .it turned out to be no problem though as it was a lesser spotted chesilrat. and on that note i went home. i'd sooner be sat on chesil in the sun, even with no fish, than home with nothing to do. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
