Hayling 16.5.8

Another session - had 3 or 4 over the last week or so at various locations - simply not worth reporting on ... all pout or blanks - really depressing - what is going on in the Solent ?

Anyway, dragged Gully out still hungover from Hull City's glorious victory and his immenent trip to Wembly.

Headed off to Hayling, has also been fishing really poor but heard of 1 or 2 bream starting to show so that was the plan.

Fished 1930 - 0030 HW2211 Usual Easterly winds that we have had for weeks ...

Not long after we set up - a bloody drift trawler started to work about 100 yards out - could have landed a 6oz in his cup of tea he was that close - TW*TS

Anyway, usual tactic one long one short, big baits little baits - really hard work - loadsa spider crabs stripping bait in seconds and snipping snoods

Usual baits although I had a peeler left over from Thursday night so I thought why not, tipped off with some peeled claws - 10 mins really good bite which I ignored followed by another decent bite - thats a bloody big spider I thought, in it came to this little beauty - only because it wasnt a Pout

2/3 lb Starry

Thank goodness for that, best fish for ages - hopefully the sign of things to come ... PLEASE

Well done Rob. Know what you mean about the Pout, but fear not mate.... The hounds are back! Time to catch some proper fish.

Re: Hayling 16.5.8

Had my first Hayling Smutty tonight ... freckled variety. Male about 6lbs.
Only one, but took whole squid in the D-Vice rather than crab on the other rod.
