Warsash 10/5/8

If you're hoping to see pictures of large fish than this is probably not the post for you, however it was a funny and busyold session that provided a few points for the species hunt and loads of fish, but not the large smuts that were hoped for.

Arrived just before low tide and made the most of a few of the known features along the shoreline to score some free bait, whilst having a rummage around I noticed that as yet the spider crabs still aren't around in any numbers at the moment which rather lowered my expectations as to big hounds as they best nights i've had at warsash have always been when it's heaving with the 'orrible things. Still decided to take advantage of a large water filled tyre and see if i could find any blenny's for the species hunt (i hope they're on the list) so cut a length of line and squashed the barb of a carp hook and spent the next hour catching loads of the things (quite enjoyed if i'm honest) so hopefully fingers crossed some points for the species hunt for this:

So couple of hours into the flood i started getting a few rattles unfortunately to these rig ruining smiley buggers - but hopefully some more points:

Next couple of hours saw loads of school bass and pouting, it had got to the point where it was difficult keeping two rods on the go they were taking everything including my peeler crab, unfortunately biggest bass was about half a pound:
Next came a few promising rattles, so out went peeler crab on both rods and the next couple hours seemed to be constant smuts, but only pups, still a picture of each for the points one common and one starry:

Just as the run seemed to be coming to an end, i had a proper rod bending smut bite, line went slack so i wound like the clappers, and about 15 foot from shore felt it pulling back, unfortunately it then just seemed to drop the hook, which talking to Paul today, reminded me of a session at Warsash this time last year where we managed a few good runs but loads of lost fish, this was a week before a couple of really good session, so who knows maybe a sign of things to come. Still think we need the spiders to arrive in big numbers before we'll see the bigger smuts, but that's just my own theory.

Fished on until about 2.00 this morning, when typically for warsash everything stopped about an hour before high tide, so fell asleep woke up at 3.00 packed up and went home, funny session really, loads of fish really busy but always felt like just as it started to show some promise, it disappointed a bit. Still i'll be back for those hounds.

Re: Warsash 10/5/8

Sounds like a busy session and a few points for the species hunt can't be bad.

Well done and the big smutts will turn up soon, no doubt
