guernsey trip results 3rd - 7th may

well trip was on and things looked good, 7 on board .eric, me, bob, big bob, alan, tony and matt, we ste off at 5 am i dont do mornings

DAY 1 (sat)
well was a lovley smooth crossing , first time iv ever gone in to the channle islands with a calm sea and it stayed that way all week. we picked few mackerel up in the mid channel thin line of black water then motered staight in to the turbot grounds and first drift i had a tub gurnard. next drift i had a poxy doggie.after that big bob had a ungie of about 7-9lb , then i had a small turbo of 3-4lb. then bob had a cracking gurnard of about 3lb, then the time stated to rip away and we head in to st peters port, to get settled in and get acquainted with the local booze / pints of apples

DAY 2 (sun) bloody easterly wind
went staight out to the turbot grounds and had a greating from 1 trawler and 1 long liner and 12+ local boats, was a very hard days fishing and but did see 1 boat hit the jack pot on 1 drift with 4 turbot/brills landed, but other wise it was hard going and we only had a couple of gurnard to show by dinner time and i got another poxy doggie( i must be channel island dog master) , so we moved off to a tope mark and tide was bit harder than we thought so we put couple of drifts though and i a had 1 bass of 3 lb and bob had another one which was boarder line so it went back, plus 4-5 pollock up to 14 lb.
as tide eased we put the pick in and i had a cracking take almost instantly but that was it till the tide turned and another pollock fell for bob, we then head back in and picked a few mackerle up for tomorrow.

DAY 3
this time we head straight to the bass grounds south of alderney, and caught up with mark harding (alderney tackle) on his boat and picked up the fishing tackle bargains (we spoke to him when we arrived).
things were slow to start but once the tide got away eric had first blood followed by me then matt and alan, then it was quite for couple of drifts and then we had couple more out asnd the tide started to drop so we head for turbot ground and played there for 2 hours with no result but im sure the trawler and the long liners did better

DAY 4
straight to the turbot grounds and were greated by dew south and shogun, we spoke to rob and said hi to andy. and then back to it.
we fished to turbot ground all day and did not have any think more than bait till the tide eased and we tryed a extra long drift then tony had a turbot of 8-9lb(which looked like i was out the money for biggest flattie, lol) and big bob had a brill of 6lb. next drift eric had another brill of 4-5lb and next drift i had another small turbot of 4 lb. then it went dead and was getting very l8 so we head back and rang the hotel to c if thay would do us food l8 which thay did, spot on food too. me and matt then went out on the town ::) silly boys.......lol

DAY 5
some how no hang over and packed and on the boat for 9.30.
then straight out for a flattie. i was hoping for a brill so i could claim the grand slam title (turbot, bass, brill)
soon as we got there we spoke to rob who was already there and he had already had 2 turbot, so hopes were high and on our 2nd drift alan had a turbot of 7lb and then tony had another with in seconds of about 12-13lb, next drift bob had a brill of about 3 lb then it went dead for a while then eric said come on one more drift then to the wrecks. in deep hope of my grand slam i put on a sandeel and dropped down..................................BINGO i got a brill of 4 lb ish , my first ever brill so a bench mark for a my pbs.
next we head out to the wrecks but they were all very quite and we only gave them couple of drift s as thay were not showing any fish on the finder, and after 10-12 wrecks time was getting on and we motered on home and arriver at 10 pm.

some pickies of my grand slam

i realy enjoyed my time over there and was very chuffed with my grand slam, may not have been big but still .
was a spot on trip, fishing was hard work. but its fishing, not guaranted fish every drop.
i think the water was to cloudy, as the black water is stll out the center of the channel and to be honist i did not even see it on the way back ,
as for the islands id recomend getting over there to anyone and if you can get away with a beer or two id goto guernsey, its a good crack and lively nite life.

our digs where in st martians 2 mile away from the port. id recomend them but the are closer places to the harbour.
hear there details
