weekends trips, jacobs and seatown 26/27/4

Jacobs again sat 26th

well as usual work changed all its plans for weekend , so my planned trip to east portlemouth with club was scuppered as working in totally wrong direction( and they had a couple of nice thornback ray as well, high on my want list)

so saturday night saw rich and myself on yet another attempt for an early ray at jacobs, Ian( gilbo ) was also there and was great to meet up again

I cant say it was the most successfull/dynamic ray session ever had as the ray didnt actually show, the weather was fantastic almost no wind little surf, but unfortunately due to all the comps we couldnt get any worm to try for other species but i did manage the usual dogs and 1 makkie, rich had a few dogs and i'm hoping ian broke his blank before he left ,

It was a pleasent eve none the less and i think plans are afoot for a north coast session with ian later in year

we packed up about 12 and after an eventfull trip home hunting a thought lost wallet and good old kebab shop in about 1 ish

Seatown Sun 27th

Sun work again and actually no plans to fish( honest)although now had some worm bait thanks to Ian, cheers

but after a shout from martin in club i saw myself in the mighty red rocket( nissan micra that goes everywhere) on the way to Seatown in search of smuts or ray, Rich amazingly would join us there later as had somehow wrangled a pass

got there about 8 and conditions looked lovely little wind and a small surf
( these pics are to prove to rich conditions were nice honest)
looking east martin setting up

looking west( you can see pub by beach here as well [amazingly i have yet to visit])

set up and rich was there about 8.30, and it was soon after that that the wind changed and the surf built rapidly and dramatically, with the predicted gentle south westerly being a strong to full south westerly and the surf reaching 3 ft or more at times

this was hard going for a pleasure session

we all had pout even on 4/0 pennel rig with treble sandeel sent out for ray/bass,so at least not a blank but it was no longer fun so we packed up just before 11
got home 11.30 ( new record for rich) and it was beatifully still and calm at home

thats it till next weekend now due to family visits etc( well unless my charm works some kind of miracle)

there have got to be some decent fish moving in soon, dogs and pout are not floating my boat at the moment

dave

unlucky Dave, I suppose I am lucky that catching pout and doggies would still be fun for me, but at least you are out there trying, you won't catch rays in front of the telly

Thumbs up Re: weekends trips, jacobs and seatown 26/27/4

Nice report Dave. Shame about the Ray though. Oh and I can reccomend the Pub at Seatown, except in the summer when it gets packed with Grockles....

Re: weekends trips, jacobs and seatown 26/27/4

Nice report mate, not much I can add really apart from to say that it was good to see you again Ian. We'll have to do that trip soon mate, cause the fishing round here has been desperate lately...

Can't quite believe I managed to get out on the Sunday but I was kind of hoping for better fishing. Still refuse to believe the sea was like that just half an hour before I turned up. Got a touch blowy didn't it??
