Calshot Hi all, Did decide to fish Southbourne last night but changed mind at last minute (I didnt fancy driving down all that way on my own for a blank) So decided to fish local and save petrol. Ended up at calshot from 8pm till about 1am. Started slow wind was light to moderate and mist rolled in for a couple of hours and I lost the isle of wight for a while, the mist then cleared and the fish came on the feed. Missed a really good thump on a rag and squid head cocktail bait, the bait was gone when I retrived after 10mins or so, then a pout fell to rag changed rigs and went straight back out as a live bait on a circle hook (I have several reports of bass to 4lb reported over last week) Then came a bass about a 1lb or so to plain rag. Missed a another good wack on that (not paying attention)Stuck a squid head out on the circle hook and hooked a doggie. Bite where coming thick and fast and good postive ones at that, failed to connect with most as I was hanging on for bass with bigger baits and hooks. Experimented with slipper limpet last night and had a few pout on that and another pout went out had another good whack on the pout but fish did not return. I inspected the pout on retrieve and was the worse for wear lots of scales fish was damaged up to the mid section, I think the pout was a bit big and the fish grabbed the pout and the snod length was to short before it was swallowed and pulled the fish out of the fishes mouth? Water was coloured up nicely and there was a bit of chop on the water which made for an action packed night in the end. Not the most thrilling report but I have broken my curse for this year and have gained a bit of confidence back after a very poor start to the year. Belive it or not my first bass and dogfish or the year! roll on the next trip!

Re: Calshot Out of interest which end do you fish at Calshot up under the trees, or towards the outdoor centre - only ask 'cos i always seem to pick the wrong spot and the wrong time at Calshot. __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck

Re: Calshot I caught several cuttles off Hayling beaches last year ... they look quite perty in the dark and I didn't have the heart to kill them for bait! ![]() Several large squid taken off Brighton Marina Wall this week on jigs.

Re: Calshot Fished towards the cadland estate stretch of beach, I noticed a few lug beds at low tide the other night. I think I might have to give it a bash with them next time and see what happens.
