if using baby squid a smaller top hook is fien but with big squid a bigger hook is needed to be able to fit worm on proper as well

That's the idea Ben with big baits like whole squid better to have the same hook size. For smaller baits like rag worm if in singles better to have a larger bottom hook smaller top one, but not too small.
