casting arround east devon

well after breaking one of old rods on wed night decided to bite the bullet and buy some decent rods, so cashed every birthday and xmas pressie in for this year and maybe next and got a pair of century rods on fri morning,

well of cause i couldnt wait to go out and play, so a trip to budliegh was undertaken to give the new babies a try

wow they go, and are soo forgiving
even tried winding 1 up a bit towards end and started to get the bend into rod( can just see lead a bit high on horizon)

come the eve play time was over and decided to find out about bite detection, so I had to go fishing
so found myself at jacobs on a fairly busy beach, and managed to christen them both with doggies, hoping for ray but hey I caught that was the important bit

pic of rods on beach as know barbelblanker loves these shots

saturday night after work was club open limits exe cup comp 9 pm - 9 am, (another chance to try them out) , , weigh in was busy with at least 20 anglers( will edit this bit when know full results etc)

I could only do the sat night so had to give best shot so of i went to sea town as heard some good reports, had to go on own as baggie was giving some excuse about not feeling like fishing due to an excess of port??? or was that portsmouth either way was indoors
got there late 9.30 ish couple of other non club anglers there
fished through till 1am for a few dogs and a pout, at least weighed in but knew not good enough, fishing dried up after 11 after a trawler ( sacallopper or for ray) came through slowly not 1/2 mile out, but i didnt have the time to find another venue

work again yesterday watching the snow outside, and after a talk with baggie in eve decided we should still go and play with rods befor hitting the pub
so we found ourselves on budliegh beach in april on a dropping tide, weather was ok in end, baggie had a few casts which he seemed to enjoy, then a bit of fishing in the dark as whole town had a power cut, again 2 doggies and pout to me( these rods are doggie magnets) , pout and possibly a poor cod to rich( research to be done here ) and then the pub

a hectic weekend, and boy do i love my new toys

now do i really need new reels to complete the ensemble

dave

Re: casting arround east devon

well done dave!

wish more day yesterday was worth writing about! .. drove all the way to bexington to be greated by anglers shoulder the shoulder as far as the eye could see in both directions! ended up fishing abbotsbury spoke to a guy who had a lovely plaice just under 4lb.. stuck it out 4 rods between us all with 2 hook rigs and we didnt get a bite all afternoon.. packed up at dark and came home

sounds like your weekend was a lot better than mine! lol

should add i have tons of bait left over that needs using today if anyone fancies fishing?
