A difficult day at West Bexington...

With the Weekend forecast of Snow & freezing weather always at the back of our minds, Bananna Steve & I set off for Chesil on Saturday Morning, & with a quick (And Expensive for Steve) visit to Weymouth Angling Centre to kit Steve out with some new gear & get some bait, we headed for West Bexie... Arrived about midday, with high tide forecast for around 6.45pm, & found the beach to already be crowded.

Word about some Plaice being caught had obviously got arround. We walked a few hundred yards along to the left side of the beach & set up our rods. Rigs were Wishbone rigs, baited with Ragworm & Sandeel. It soon became obvious that things were going to be slow. The only action that I was gettig was from Spider Crabs that were snipping my hooks off virtually every cast.

A Spidercrab trys to steal my Forum sticker...

After a while my mobile rang, & it was Portland Jon, who had just arrived with his son Tyler. I gave him a wave to let him know where we were & he walked down the beach to introduce himself. Unfortunately Jon mistakenly went up to the Angler fishing next to us & who also happened to be called Ian & introduced himself to the rather bemused chap. After a moment of confusion, they walked along to us & we eventually met Jon & Tylor.

Tylor, Jon & Steve.

(Nice meeting you Jon. It's a pity we did,nt have more time to chat before you left.)
The weather looked perfect, with clear calm water, blue sky & sunshine, although the wind was getting progressively colder.
Only the bites were missing.
Steve waits for a bite.

A local Farmer friend of mine, "Peter" joined us for a while to try for an early Mackerel, but he had no luck either...
To cut a long story short, we fished through until 8pm when the cold got the better of us & we decided to pack up. I'd lost about 30 hooks to the crabs & had just about had enough. On the up side, we were treated to another glorious Chesil Sunset & on retrieving our lines for the last time, we both discovered that neither of us had blanked. We both had an obliging little Pout attached.

Well done on your First Sea Fish Steve...

I suspect that if we had stayed on until after dark, we may have caught a few more Pout & maybe some Doggies, but the fact that no-one else appeared to be catching, plus the cold & the call of the Kebab house got the better of us...

Re: A difficult day at West Bexington...

Looks like you had a lovely day, despite the lack of fish. Chesil is very popular by the looks of it.

Some lovely pictures Ian.

Well done Steve on your first sea fish, only took me 10 sessions before I got my first

Re: A difficult day at West Bexington...

Nice report Ian, sounds like the only things missing were the fish. Ah well, welcome to my world

Glad you enjoyed the day regardless, and good to see the Bananna bloke break his duck. Well done mate!
