T/Q, cuckoo,scotty and myself.

town quay

19/3/08
i usually fish beaches, piers and quays are rarely my venue choice these days, i've not fished one for years.
but feb/march being a thin time while we're waiting for the summer species to arrive, my m8 lee persuaded me to join him and give it a go as he and scotty couldn't stray too far from home last night.
i arrived to find lee and scotty already set up and fishing though they had only just started
the prediction was that it was gonna be a pout and whiteing fest but this venue produces a good variety of fish with the odd surprise big un on a regular basis, usually later in the year is better.

weather- cold ,dry, northerly winds.

tide- first highwater approx 22.30, just at the start of the spring tide cycle.

bait- ragworm, frozen black lug, squid ,frozen pealer crab, slipper limpet, mackerel, sandeel, sprat, raw tiger prawn, live baited pout. u name it we tried it.

rigs- flappers, pennel pulleys, flowing trace, wishbone(blinged) +any thing else the other 2 used that i didn't see.

as predicted it was a pout/whiteing fest with fish of the usual stamp (small) being caught regularly left ,right n center. there must have been a dozen or more anglers lined up on the fence, with most useing several rods.
it was definately a bit different to my usual marks where i end up ' Billy-no-mates' on a lonely beach somewhere, the company was good, i had some m8's to talk to instead of myself

it was lee who broke the pattern for the evening by landing a fine fat flounder on his wishbone rig, which was the only variation to the pout/whiteing all night.
well lee and scotty got called away and had to leave, and eventually all the others drifted off leaving me their left over bait.
with more space i could safely wind up a few casts and get out a bit further,
i did miss a real good pull down bite on the pennel pulley fished at range, otherwise the pout/whiteing continued to feed sporadically through the ebb.

i gave up at 03.30 due to cold and boredom, drove as far as salisbury before pulling in for a kip b4 i fell asleep at the wheel , with the phone alarm set for 6am which either didn't work or i slept through i woke at 8.20am with 1/2 hour to get home / kids to school
it just wern't gonna happen, the kids were late
and the wife not best pleased,
however the f,p,o. (wife) has granted a pass for early hours of saturday
which depending on the weather might be a goer.

Brill report mate , great night in great company ...we have to do it again sometime gord , just a shame i had to leave early ..... that clipped up wishbone rig i was using , was a trial to target flounder and plaice ,used it twice in darkness and caught flounder on it both times ....... then lost it in a snag , so made up another 3 last night , was looking at getting out today , but the weather has put a dampners on that ,,,, cheers gord for a great session

lee.

Re: T/Q, cuckoo,scotty and myself.

i've never got on with wishbones but that one seemed to work ok,
still thinking about venues for the early hours of tomorrow,
7am spring tide on chesil looks tempting.
