portland. i decided to do some rock hopping for a change, after tying plenty of rigs last night and so with a full rig wallet or 2 and a stack of bait i made a start to the left of the pulpit at about 2pm. it was a tad breezy but the sun was out and all looked good. there was quite a swell rolling in from the southwest and it was quite pleasant sat high on the flat rock. despite several hours of trying hard i gave up and moved around the head to try and avoid the swell. it was easier fishing here with less snags though i thought i saw the odd knock there was no success, the only hook ups i got was with the rocks n kelp. __________________ 2008, sessions..25, total blanks..3 species,..20 its easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than to defeat the darkness all around him.

Re: portland. Hi Geejayy. If you fished from where you took the pictures from near Pulpit then you went about 40m to far. If you don't want to fish off Pulpit (and I don't, too scary) then you need to fish the ledge that you can see in your picture next to it. A 40m lob will put you into a series of deep gullies where the fish are. Due to the huge tide run you can only fish the Puplit side on the Ebb. You then need to go to the other side of the point if you want to fish the flood.

Re: portland. Hi Maghouse. All the really big ones are caught between November and January, with January being the best month. Use a whole hard back velvet swimmer crab cut in half and a strong 4/0 hook.

Only just found this post mate. Nice pics. I know I keep saying it, but we really must organise a Forum meet down there. A bit of rock fishing will make a real change from the usual beaches.... __________________ And when it starts to rain, the monolith's will crumble....Leveller's http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org
