2008, trip no,-2, a marathon

as i had all day i hit the beach early after collecting bait n bits from sotton.
arrived at calshot about 14.00 with the tide still ebbing for low water approx 15.30.
i hadn't planned on getting there quite that early but cast my rods anyway like you do.
it was a bright sunny febuary day only spoilt by a cold easterly wind.

view to the west.

the tide was dropping quite a way , i'd forgotten how shallow it gets here.

view to the east a bit later.

i decided on a temporary respite while the tide had fully ebbed mainly due to the wadeing birds walking back and too through my swim

view south.

forward planning was to kip through lowwater but i was quite happy to laze in the sunshine watching the wildlife and boat traffic. t'is funny how i can never sleep when there's nothing better to do like fish a decent state of the tide.

with renewed vigour i made a start as the flood commenced and had my first bite almost straight away but i missed it , must have been only 2ft of water in the lagoon.
nothing else doing and the temp dropped like a stone as darkness fell and had to wait till the tide topped out at 21.00 b4 any fish showed.

and then it was just pout/poorcod, which was about it, could catch nothing else just a dozen or so of these till i gave up at 01.30.

if any ones headding that way tomorra , the a 36 was shut between pepper box hill and salisbury , which gave me an irritateing detour on the way home.

Re: 2008, trip no,-2, a marathon

Had the same trouble a couple of weekends ago but was fishing a pegged match.
Did you fish near the outlet pipe? a nice thornback came from that end during the comp.
Im a member of the activity centre so i have a bit more choice when it comes to fishing there. I've been trying a double sandbar just inside the activity centre as it looks like a definate fish holding feature but so far have had the usual story this month micro bass, pout and rockling. i'll keep trying as it might through up a flatty soon though.
Nice report though wish I was out instead of being stuck at work.
