| Re: floundering arround in rodney bay 13/2/8 Well, what can I say? A session that will live long in the memory for both of us, but for wildly differing reasons. I think you can say that Ping’s evening soared like a mighty eagle, whilst mine started off badly, tapered of a bit in the middle and the less said about the end the better. ![]() Bad start. We got to the beach only for me to find I’d left my tip lights, fleece and boots in my garage. Arse. Dave wondered off down to the beach whilst I jumped back into his car (Cheers mate ) and pelted (err, I mean drove very carefully) home to grab the forgotten stuff.Roughly 30 mins later, I’d sorted my life out (Ha, like that’d only take 30 mins!) and caught up with Dave who’d setup on the rocks near the ladder. “You don’t want to fish here do you mate? Surely we’d be better off on the beach itself wouldn’t we?” I said as I approached. I’d had been wanting to try fishing near the edge of a rock spit that runs out perpendicular the beach for a couple of hundred yards. Only problem was, I couldn’t quite remember were the damned thing started, so I setup where I thought was close and started fishing. Dave (Probably on my advice Tapered off a bit in the middle It didn’t take long. Having watched Dave pull in a flounder, I went to rebait my first rod, only to find it snagged up. Only a good long walk along the beach allowed me to change the angle of pull and I got my gear back. Guess what happened to the second rod? ![]() And so it went for the next hour or so. Dave was pulling in flounder like there was no tomorrow, and I spent more time down the other end of the beach trying to free my snagged up gear than near my rods actually fishing. ![]() It was only after I’d managed to get the two lines tangled and nearly pulled the other into the sea from 100 yards away, that I decided I’d now had enough and moved further down the beach to get away from all the snags. Only I didn’t. Oh no, that’d be far too easy. I reckon I found every snag on the beach and then some. I did however manage to bag the smallest rockling you’ve ever seen in you life, so not a blank at least. All the while Dave’s fish count was growing and growing. The final straw came by my failing to tie a decent leader knot six times in a row! and I lost the will to fish. I decided that discretion being the better part of valor, I’d pack up, sit quietly on beach behind Dave and sink a couple of beers. Less said about the end the better. Maybe it was the fact that we’ve got some time on the casting field coming up on Sunday, or maybe it was the fact that I really needed to get rid of some pent up aggression, but for some reason I foolishly decided that rather than drink the beer, my time would be better served by doing a bit of casting practice. I wondered off back up to the supposedly flat rocks with new rod in hand only to go arse over tit with my rod held over my head and ended up with a wet leg and a nice big bruise on my knee. Bugger. Undeterred, I set about hurling a lead out to sea, got a bit carried away and blew my reel up in spectacular fashion. 20 mins of unpicking later and I did it again first cast. That was it. I’d had enough so I skulked back to Dave’s rods and waited for him to finish fishing. To top it all off all the beer had gone too! Roll on the weekend so I can do it all again! I think. ![]() Lessons learnt. 1. Sometimes, you should just pack up and go home. 2. Other times, you shouldn’t even start. 3. The trick is deciding when to fish from the beach, and when to fish from the pub. __________________ Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land.
