Re: hayling island ...blankety blank !!

We came, we didn't conquer and we went
What can I say....boooooodiful weather, great company, had my first play with a multi but the fish didn't come out to play.

Eddie, Lewis and myself stayed until 7pm, by then the tide went back so far that you had to walk half a mile to get to the edge of the water.

Another blank under my belt....crickey I'm getting good at this

Re: hayling island ...blankety blank !!

You wouldn't have seen many Hayling folks out there.

Why are matches planned at a venue which is barren (like a lot of others) from mid Jan to end of February???

Glad you enjoyed the sunshine, but I can't understand match secretaries/committees holding a match with all the necessary expense by individual anglers when there is zilch to catch.

Glad you enjoyed the sunshine, but I can't understand match secretaries/committees holding a match with all the necessary expense by individual anglers when there is zilch to catch.

Basically, you need 6-12 locations for the year, no-one wants to fish the same mark all the time in comps, you need somewhere easily accessible and easy to find with plenty of parking. Disabled & immobile anglers need to be considered.

You need to choose the locations as best as you can for the whole year choosing the better locations at the appropriate times, for example - you want Smuts in June/July at a Smut mark, Cod in the winter at a cod mark - that leaves the doldrums which is always Jan/Feb and left with just a few marks to choose from.

For this particular comp - a daylight on Hayling was a good choice given the locations left as there was the chance of an early Plaice and possibly a Flounder (indeed one was caught by a non-comp angler )....

I did not arrange or attend this match, therefore has nothing to do with me but I do arrange matches for our mini league and it is a little irritating when all that hard work is criticised when you are doing your best.

I have yet to see a complaint from those who fished - they all had a good social day but fished knowing a couple of fish could have won the comp so you keep on plugging away plus I bet a lot of the novices enjoyed the session, trying out new gear and etc in the daylight !

If you are saying - Jan/Feb there are no fish so don't go out .... I would still enjoy a session on the beach blanking than sat in front of the box drinking beer .....
