| A day at Eype from Claudia's point of view As Mike already said, we met up with Ian around lunch time, I have never fished Eype before so had no idea what to expect. So I set up one rod with a 3 hook flapper size 1 hook, rag and lug as bait. Second rod went out on a pulley pennel rig, size 3/0 with a full squid. My first swim turned out to be a tackle grave yard and within 1 hour I already lost 3 rigs, so I decided to move about 15 yards to the left of Ian, which turned out to be a little better but still snaggy and I continued to loose a few more rigs. Boys banter ![]() During the session I tried different baits, rag, lug, squid, sprats peeler crab and even mackerel strips. I managed the odd pout and a whiting....nothing exciting, the surf was pretty rough so it was pretty hard for me to recognize a bite, hence I kept checking and re-baiting every 15 mins. Lucky Ian provided me with plenty of ginger wine to keep my spirit up About 17.15hrs I reeled one of my rods in again to re-bait, when I had this little fella attached to my hook.....I believe it's a 3 bearded rockling but please correct me if I'm wrong. So there, at least 1.5 points for the team. Evening fell and Pingu arrived with plenty of Pingu pies, just before Ian had to pack up to join Mrs Greenheart and friends for an evening meal. I'm not going to repeat Pingu's misfortune about loosing a huge emount of tackle, as Mike already described it * *Ian's last cast ![]() A lovely sundown ![]() ![]() 8pm and Baggie arrived and decided to fish my first swim, even though he was warned about the snags but it looked like his casting skills are much better than mine and mananged to avoid most of the them. I mananged to hook another pouting on lug but that's as far as it went for me and by 10.30pm I gave up and started to pack up, as I have lost too many rigs and was getting tired anyway. 11pm and it was time for Mike and me to hit the road back home, as we still had 1.5hrs drive ahead of us. Not the greatest great session on the species hunt for me but it was great to have met Ian and specially Pingu and Baggie again, as it has been ages since we have met up for a meet. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: A day at Eype from Claudia's point of view Nice one Claudia. It was great to meet up again. Shame we could get you some more exciting species, but they've been in short supply lately! Bet ya any money you caught more fish sea fishing yesterday than I'll catch on the dark side next week. We'll see.Nice report and pics my dear. ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. | Re: A day at Eype from Claudia's point of view Good read and pics, both yours and Mike's It is difficult from the photo to tell which rockling it is, but most three-bearded are spotted. I think the smart money would be on five-bearded, as they are the commonest (says me who failed to catch a rockling in last year's hunt) Do you use any sort of "rotten bottom" system when fishing snaggy ground? That way you only lose a lead, not the whole rig. I use "Sea Match" - cheap, simple to set up and effective, __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

never fished the venue before so I wasn't prepared. I think the problem there was the hooks getting caught in large flat stones, as we noticed straightened up hooks on a few rigs we retrieved later. Thanks on the fish ID again, I knew I can count on you......i still got a lot to learn about sea fish ![]() __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: A day at Eype from Claudia's point of view Well done Claudia, fish = points. Better than I did today (but I'll write a report shortly!). I reckon if you've got a decent bit of photo manipulation software, you can use that fish again, it's a catfish isn't it?? ![]() Anyway your scenic shots are far better than Mike's. __________________ "I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order" Eric Morcambe |
