| day 55, just couldn't take it no more. after 54 days of no fishing i had a choice, service car and get a fresh tyre-stay home. or service car, screw the tyre and go fishing. a decision which found me and the vectra heading for abbotsbury with the freshly serviced engine pulling crisp and cleanly on a tyre that just about made the mot a fortnight ago. i made the carpark for 6pm where there were just 1 or 2 other cars which surprised me as it was as good tide and it sounded like the surf had dropped though there was still a cold stiff breeze from the wswish. no sooner than i'd got the boot open when another 1/2dozen or so cars turn up armed to fish, it turned out there was a couple of matches on at this venue , being a big beach it wasn't a problem as everyone seemed to space themselves out well. i could tell the recent storms had been quite fierce due to the large blocks of black sea peat that had been thrown up the shingle, i've not seen that b4. base camp was established just to the right behind the toilet block. tide;- spring, h/w- 8.30 ish. baits;- squid/bluey/lug/sandeel. rigs ;- 2 hooks flapping / 6/0 single paternoster clipped. i found that i'd left my beachbuddy at home so i was just gonna have t' put up with the draft. on the last of the flood i could catch nothing but doggies, then it went quiet over high water but picked up again on the ebb with the addition of a poorcod and some whiteing to the tally. it was the first time out with the new rod rest(salt) which performed fairly well, not much of a challenge but it stayed stable, being a fussy bu**er the only possible problems i could find are;- the front leg extensions seem a bit flimsey. and i recon i'll loose the nuts for the cross bars if i'm not careful. otherwise aok. it stayed dry and i stuck at it after all the guys on the comp left, quiting at 1.30 when i'd had enough of the wind, i'll remember my bivvy next time. it was good to get out on the beach again and not a bad result for january with a final tally of;- dogfish- 8,.....to about 2lb. poorcod-1, whiteing 3. tight lines for 2008. gj. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |

| Re: day 55, just couldn't take it no more. Know the feeling Geejavy. Since coming back from Australia we have not been able to get out as we are having a new central heating system, new kitchen and new bathroom installed. The house is alive with blokes in overalls drilling, hammering, sawing, chipping, plastering, moving equipment and the like. No water, no heating, no cooking, no loo(!!!)for some of the time. We are doing two full-time jobs moving stuff out of the way from one room to another and back again, and keeping a steady supply of tea going. I think we are past the worst now, the new condensing boiler , new gas stove, and new WC are all in place and working. Shower and wash basin being installed as I write. Just the bathroom tiling to do after that. Then fishing again ? No, not quite, there is the clean-up and re-decorating to be done first........ __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |
