| well last night was the long awaited start to the 2008 wed night league I turned up promptly just before 7 as i am helping to run this years league( but adrian has all well in hand so token gesture really by end of signing in 7.15 there were 12 of us booked in for comps, other members were either out on pleasent family evening walks or organising family BBQ's or alfresco meals in the garden on this glorious evening ,ok so conditions were a touch challenging ![]() ![]() I didnt bother walking any further than the bottom of the steps and set up baggie turned up to watch my rods get blown over twice before even casting out ![]() started comp at 7.30 and before long we were all into the whiteing that were stripping/takeing anything that was cast out, best I could manage from the many that i caught were 2 at 10 oz Then it was trying to do anything for a different species but the whiting were plagueing us ,managed 2 undersized pouting then baggie had a call from home and unfortunately had too leave(wish i went with him as was not comfortable fishing there and pub had been calling since 9(but no mobile sig to call people so we fished on) )the tide dropped so the surf increased and holding ground and or bite detection was neigh on impossible, but i did scrape a poxy 4oz rockling(just sizeable) was glad when was 11.30 came arround come the weigh in all had the obligitory whiteing(best of night 1lb4oz) a few pout, rockling and unusually for budliegh just the 1 doggie Adrian has started in the way he did last year having scratched out 280+%(sorry cant remember exact figures)then si may was 2nd with 220+% taff 3rd with 180ish and I was 4th with 101% a tough night roll on feb and another scratch fest at jacobs ladder/sidmouth ![]() sorry no photos as just wanted to get home ![]() dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives Last edited by pingu; 01-10-2008 at 07:16 AM. |

| Re: Budliegh comp wed 9/1/8 T'was a touch blowy last night to say the least. I turned up just as the comp was starting to find Ping stood at the bottom of the steps and a roaring surf behind him. Before I'd even managed the obligatory "OI OI!", his rods had gone over once, and before I'd finished the "Alright mate, how ya getting on?" they'd gone over again. Tonight was NOT a night for distance casting or light float work. I wondered off a few yards down the beach and decided that I'd fish only one rod with a 2 up 1 down. At least that way if the rods had gone over I'd only have to repair one set of rings and it should have given me a good chance of a whiting as I'd already heard talk of one or two coming in. First cast resulted in a 5oz whiting, second cast produced a 10oz fish. Third gave me an undersized rockling, and I'd just cast out the fourth when my phone went and an "emergency" at home meant I had to pack up and head back pronto. On retrieving the fourth cast I found a 4oz whitting had taken my rag bait and that was it for the night. A grand total of one hours fishing giving a fish a cast for a total bag of a 10oz & 5oz whiting. Hopefully, it won't damage my chances too much (There's a Looooong way to go yet!) but it was a bit gutting knowing I could have had another 3 1/2 hours of fishing with the fish on the feed. Such is life I guess, and when you've gotta go, you've gotta go. Turns out that the "emergency" wasn't exactly a massive issue, but it scared the crap out of the missus and I'm not having that. Plus I'm now going to have a solid gold pass for the weekend, so as long as it didn't put me too far down the leader board I'm fine with that. A strange night all in all. The fish were there but fishing was hard work. Big thanks to Ping. Providing the bait AND paying my comp subs when I had to run off. Mate you're a star. ![]() Lessons learnt. =========== 1. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone to find the fish. 2. Bite dection shmite dection. Fishing to the clock has it's place as well. 3. Turn your damned mobile off. ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait? |
