| Chesil - Dragon's Teeth - 30/12 Fished Abbotsbury as planned yesterday, High Tide was 2330 or thereabouts, arrived to find the bank awash with rods, which meant an unplanned but not overly unpleasent trudge down the bank to the first available spot which was down at Dragon's Teeth. Walk took about 20 minutes, but wasn't as bad as i'd imagined it might be, would have had to walk about a further 300 yards had a couple of guys not called us over to say they were packing up and we could set up by them - don't think my legs would have taken much more shingle wading! Set up both rods, one with a 6/0-2/0 pulley and the other with a 3/0 2 hook flapper, baits were primarily black lug and squid, with the occasional switch to a live baited pout or lump of mackerel. Started off by getting a few whiting, most were keepers, but as the tide began to flood the bites seemed to dye away, and me mate was getting even fewer, ended up with about seven sizeable whiting, and the usual array of steroid powered chesil dogs and pain in the arse pout that still managed to get their big greedy gobs around a 3/0 hook, didn't seen any codling coming out from where me and Ronnie were fishing, but was more than pleased with the whiting - discovered last week, when battered, taste a lot nicer than cod! Apologies for lack of pictures, battery dead, could rustle up a picture of a bunch of fillets but in these times of political correctness, probably best not to  So that's it for 2007 - will be remembered for a couple of cracking nights catching smoothounds at Warsash, First Stingray, First Cod, Small-Eyed Rays in Cornwall and a couple of Whiting filled sessions at Chesil,  still haven't managed a SailFish or Tarpon from Town Quay, but hey there's a whole new year coming up!All the Best for 2008 __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck     |
