after boasts of what i was going to achieve on the specie points front i thought i aught to start by getting myself some decent bait,

so arriveing at lepe was greeted by the sight of a large yacht layed high and dry, aground on the shingle bank about 150yds off the high tide mark,
as i grabbed my prong i breifly wondered weather it would bob up vertical as the tide rose, or would the water wash over the gunnels first.
might make a new wreck mark.

any how, dug till dusk and got 70 odd rag and 1/2 a dozen common lug,
i don't really know why but i didn't feel like fishing here, the tide hadn't long turned so i went to reccy some marks i'd looked at on multi map.

1, hythe marina, faceing the peir- no fishing signs

2, hythe prom, t'other side of the peir, - didn't fancy it.

3, a bit of land that sticks out into southampton water- covered with new apartments , and no fishing signs.

i kept following the coast towards calshot looking at access to the foreshore, past the raf base and on as far as the travellers rest pub.- time creeping on now , no time for beer.

4, cracknore hard- i followed the lane down ,but it has changed a lot with new fencing everywhere , i got to te bottom which looked fenced off so gave up and went back, must have missed the turn somewhere.
i had noticed the mod police vehicle follow me down and as i returned he pulled in behind and pulled me over,
And explained he was doing a stop & account because i'd been seen by him suspiciously cruiseing around the mod property here and at hythe,
well my details all checked out coz i'm an innocent guy
and the s&a slip copy he left me read- outcome of encounter,- advice given,
the advice was good, ie- 'cracknore hard is just down there on the right, its really snaggy and you really need to check it out at low water,
it looks like there's a comp on at lepe deepwater mark, but if you don't want to go that way there's the next bit up at' ;-

i didn't mind being stopped, its good to see people are keeping their eyes open.

anyhoo, i ended up at mag lane,boat yard end, high water midnight,spring, wind n/e dry with broken cloud.

target sole/eels/ li'l starry, i'll take anything after my boast predicting 4.5 pts t'other day.

baits;- rag/lug/squid.

rigs;- pennel pulley 1/0's / short 'bolt' ledger 4 / 3 hook flapper 4's.

i set up the awb 122 with the 3 hook flapper and flung it out,-bite-strike- 3" pout .
rebait, recast - bite-bite strike- double shot of 3" pout.
recast-bite, sod that set up the spinning rod with the bolt rig,

bite,bite, bite,

pout,pout,pout,
all 3-4 inch for all of the flood, even to big baits on a 1/0 pennel,

all getting a bit tedious by high water so i freelined a live pout on the spinning rod with a single 6/0 but no takers, and the pout dryed up over high water.
i gave up with the live bait and went back to the lil' hooks hopeing for something/anything other than bloody pout, i'd even settle for a goby that would be 1.5pts, getting desperate now.

as the ebb started a cigarette break was interupted by my rods getting pulled over off the rest, both of them nodding, grrr bloody lil' size 4 hooks , that wern't a sole,
retrieved awb, missed it, bait the pennel rig and recast then retrieve the spinning rod that was still nodding away, result, a little schoolie, well it made a change from pout.
by the time i had that sorted the awb was going again and i eventually gaind some points with a little starry smut.



cute little feller.

the pout then resumed with a vengance till bites tapered off and i left at 0430.

that 'll teach my to boast. joint 3rd by friday, humph.

another fantastic report gord , cracknore is confusing eh ! when you drive down the lane and cant see it going any further , turn right and that will take you straight to the public hard !, cant believe thats the first time you have been stopped by the mps lol , they are always following me down to the shore lol , well done on the smutt mate as snaggy alley is fishing terrible at the mo !!!!
