Short sess at Southsea

With the tides building nicely this week and high tide moveing close to midnight i had to get out and have a go.
By the time i set up down southsea it was already 9 o clock only two hours before high water so i hastely belted two big lug baits uptide and waited.
I didnt have to wait long as one of the rods pulled down slightly and then the tip came back.
I steadily wound in thinking if there was ever a Cod bight that was it
A few minutes later and i had my first Cod of the year ,a nice little fat one of 2 1/2lb
Quick change of rigs and out goes the lug again.
I d just put the rod down when the other one pulls down then springs back,as i wound it in there was a half decent fish on and i was really thinking it was a decent cod.Into the shallows it came ,a quick pull and off the fish went 10 yards downtide.
This is my first good cod off the south coast i thought as a smoothhound of just under 4lb came up the beach
Ive never been so cheesed off to catch a smut.
Things carried on like that for the next few casts, another small smutt ,this time a pup and two very big pout which again gave very codlike bights.
One hour 15 mins later and that was it,the tide picked up and with it came heaps of weed.
I tried fishing through it but within minutes your lead was ripped out and trotting off downtide with 3 ton of weed atatched
I dropped both rods very short but the lads next to me were not casting far and didnt have a fish between them so i packed up and went home thinking what could have been if the weed hadnt come out to play
Good couple of hours though.
cheers John

Thumbs up Re: Short sess at Southsea

Nice little session there John, good effort.

Very well done on the cod mate. Always a welcome sight on the beach.

That weed is a real pain in the ar*e at the moment; I was hoping the big blow might have got rid of it?!

I just can't get my head round all these catch reports......three of us are out on Friday night in the New Forest area......where to go?! Milford shingle bank? Hordle cliffs? Barton? Taddiford Gap? Southbourne? OH HELL!!

Keep trying for the sole?! Try and get amongst some of these codling?!

SOMEBODY HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!

I used to be indecisive.........but now I'm not so sure!!

Regards.

A.C.

Re: Short sess at Southsea

Nice one John, sorry I could not make it last night .... hopefully the fish will still be there tonight !

Glad to see the Smuts are still there in reasonable size ... I'd be pleased with one that big this time of year ...

Now, if only the weed would go ....
