Samphire Hoe (Dover) 18/7/7

Fished in a competition on the 'Hoe 18/7/7 1000 - 1600
Lovely sunny but very windy day. Huge swell on the sea at HW and for a few hours after.

Never fished the Hoe before, heard it was a tackle graveyard but some good fishing !

Looking East towards Dover (breakwater in the background)

Looking West towards Folkestone

Looking down the wall - long way down at LW ! (probably a 30' drop)

Started off really well with a double shot of Wrasse - Ballan & Corkwing, then almost a fish a cast - quite productive in amongst all the rocks but also costing a weight a cast ... rotton bottom gear essential

All the Wrasse were around the 1/2 - 1lb mark and all caught on rag.

The Wrasse were coming up in a great variety of markings and shades of colour !

Had 11 Wrasse up to HW then for the last hours - very little caught, had one more Wrasse which was the biggest at around 1-2lb and that was it !

The match was on a points system and all fish counting, points awared for speices & fish - also managed a few Blennies so had a nice total I thought but try as I may - could not catch a Pollack or Pout of which a few were coming in and pushing up peoples totals (extra points for species )

Scores on the doors - came 4th in my section & 7th overall (about 30 fished) Prizes were up to 3rd in the pools section and 5th overall - bugger .... missed out

Lovely place to fish, bet when the wind dies down and the swell drops - would be lovely .... loosing gear was frustrating but only lost 2 sets & a dozen or so of my specially made concrete weights !

Not one drop of weed - a refreshing change !

Definatley fish here again - possible venue for a forum meet - acres of space, parking just up the hill, tea room & toilets & loadsa fish !
