Newhaven Report

Well guys, I was going to do a fishing trip to the south coast last night, but got drunk instead . Anyhoo, I decided to fish off the harbour arm at Newhaven today. Got there at 11.00 am, conditions perfect, hot sunny weather and the wind was low. Result was that the sea was quite calm.

Set up for 2 hours before high tide, and cast (now improved ) into the incoming tide. Used a variety of baits - lug, sandeels, mackerel strips, mussels. Two BIG bites and lost both - the air was blue I can tell you. In fact I was ready to land one - a bass, but it struggled free nnnaaaahhh!!!

By about 1.15pm (an hour before HT) I'd had enough of sitting and waiting for the next big bite. So out came the four feather mackerel trace. An hour later and I have 4 garfish and 3 mackies, all good sizes. Never caught garfish before, so well chuffed. All returned to fight another day. (N.B. Saw some kids who didn't know how to knock out a mackerel, so advised them how to do it before they started kicking it about.)

Packed up at 3.00pm, with a severe tan and an empty stomach. Best day by far for me. At this moment in time I love fishing

Rob

Re: Newhaven Report

i like newhaven a lot as its a good place to fish with a mixture or ground to fish over plus its free to fish it costs 2 pounds to park your car (parking is free for my motorbike :-) and its open 24/7 all year round as far as i know as most other peirs around here charge you

Re: Newhaven Report

Well done mate...sounds great!! i never fish the arms as i normally fish the beach on the east side of the arms (tide mills) great fishing there as the water is deep and you can get gars within 20yrds of the beach so it easy to float fish aswell which is nice!! you even get a great run or mullet there along with some nice size scollies!! give it ago mate if you get bored of the arms

Glad you had a good day bud that was a great read and good luck for your next trip!!!
