Climping , West Sussex Well, I decided to go on my first fishing trip for 16 years yesterday, deciding to go to Climping, near Littlehampton. Apparently the area is good for bass, mullet, eels and dogfish and relatively snag free. I know the beach anyway, so I made the decision at yesterday to fish there. When I left Crawley the rain was belting down, but when I arrived at Climping (7.30pm), it was early evening sunshine and quite warm. No need for the big warm coat then. I was so excited , I practically legged it to the beach with my gear. Climping beach is all shingle with a long section of wooden groyles. It isn't infested with loads of tourists either. The sea was really calm and I would say it was blowing about 2-3. Perfect. High tide was at 10.30pm, so I was going to fish 2 hours either side of that. It took me about 10 mins to get set up and I practiced a few casts with a 5oz sinker. Pathetic. Obviously, I'd lost some of my casting skills in my long lay off, must practice. I decided on alternating baits between black lugworm and sandeels just to see if it made any difference. I was using a pennel rig and a 5oz sinker. First cast in - ok but not too far. Rod onto rest and I swear I only had sat down when the rod tip waggled. Nah, must be the wind, but no it was definitely indicating something. When I grabbed the rod, I could definitely feel something there, but played it cool and struck when the time was right. Yay, I'm in! After a couple of minutes, I landed my first fish in a long time, a bass of around 2lbs (it took the black lug). To say I was happy would be an understatement. Anyway he was returned to fight another day. Sadly this good luck didn't continue, as I fished up to high tide. I decided to call it a day at that point as I became snagged and try as I might I had to concede and lose my end tackle and shockleader. Hey-ho. The trip was well worth it though, and the feeling of sitting on the beach looking out to sea was great. I plan to go again this week after I have practiced some casting! Cheers Rob

Re: Climping , West Sussex Aye, great write up, more of the same please!!! Congratulations on your bass, a great fish to catch after a break. Next time you plan to go please drop me a private message (pm) as I would like to have a go down there some time, and if you are fishing alone it's always a lot more fun to have a bit of company - unfortunately I can only really do weekends, but if you have anything planned let me know. cheers AG __________________ ><((((((*> ><((((((*> ><((((((*> trailer cleaning

Re: Climping , West Sussex Alas, they've started to charge and parking on the road is restricted between 9am-8pm I think. I just parked as close to the beach as possible, because there was hardly anyone there. Are there any hotspots to recommend along that coastline OJ? Rob
