Red face branscombes gone to the dogs!?!?!?

well with a few others from club I ventured over to the now open Branscombe west beach(because we can at last as our mighty webmaster told us )
(sorry tried to take some more pics of napoli but just too dark )
got there at 6.50 with temp gauge on car showing a balmy 0.0*C

Si, Tony and myself headed as far as 3rd beach hut, Si walking the furthest west but only by 20yards or so

started fishing about 7.15 hightide was at 8,40
almost immediately we were into our favourite fishy friend
the lesser spotted dogfish

tony was desperately trying for a bass and was using every tactic to get one, especially calling to them to find his hook
this tactic 1/2 worked as he did get the most doggies but no bass before I left

I had 2 doggies and 2 kindly fell off on shingle and swam away saving the hasstle of unhooking ;-)

Si unfortunately although reeling in 1 doggie was in serious snag city and lost 4 sets of gear (bet rich loves the sound of that ) so heded back up beach to meet some later arrivals (and cleaner ground)
high tide came and all bites stopped so i waited till 9,40 then lure of pub overcame(as nowt happening here now) saw Si again who had now lost another 2 sets of gear on the clean ground!!( thatl teach him to cast so far out)

everyone seemed to have had doggies and nothing else(hoping Si tells be better tommorrow )

got back to car and was now 2*c and a pretty frost
really was a lovely evening to be out

great to be back at branscombe again after the troubles as is a top venue, well done to all who have cleaned the area up

dave

Well done mate... It's good to know it's fishable again.

I stand to be corrected here Paul, but although all the oil/fuel is off, and the containers on deck are off, I think it'll be a fairly long time before all the containers in the hold are removed. I think I heard a figure of nearly a year mentioned....

Re: branscombes gone to the dogs!?!?!?

Now Pingu, I have a theory! I recon that the Branscombe 'gods' were trying to make me loose every single piece of tackle I had on that night so you and I didnt have to go and waste a freezing cold couple of hours at Sidmouth tonight catching bloody Dogfish! Well, some of us were anyway! Wish I had retired to the pub with you really! Done the 'double doggie' tonight though (ooer mrs!) so it's out on another species hunt in the morning. Oh yea, nice Branscombe report there too.
